Just my two cents for anyone doing multi-monitor, special with laptops.
Last two gen NVIDIA drivers will get you really high DPC spikes, over 600ms, while AMD cards wont even get to 100ms... When adding more monitors specially with NVIDIA keep an eye on DPC values ;)

Thanks! I was searching for a replacement card for my damaged Nvidia 210.. most reviews seem to flavor the GT series over Radeon at similar price point. I'll stick with AMD then.

Just for the record the MoB I am using disables the internal VGA etc. when it detects a Video card so the answer to my question is no.  Looks like I will have to go play find a new three head card.

I have been researching all day for a solution for low cost cards that supports 3 monitors. For these cards (HD 5450, HD 55xx, etc..) with 3 video outs, one of the output must be a Display Port (which is not the same as DVI or HDMI from my understanding), in combination with the other 2 to get 3 video outs. Lacking the Display Port, you can only get 2 video outs, even though the card has 3 outs - such as my case of the Sapphire HD 5450 with VGA, DVI and HDMI.

For me, I'll simply get another Sapphire HD 5450 to replaced the damaged Nvidia 210 and settle for 4 display max.

Reading #johnkeel post above, getting rid of the Nvidia may be a good thing.

I'll keep that in mind. I've been looking at mainly Nvidia cards but I will start looking more towards AMD. I did see an AMD card with like 6 displayport ports on it but I didn't read much about it yet.

Just like to report back I've successfully updated my system with 2x HD 5450 cards, each driving 2 monitors. All 4 monitors running 1080p. My spec is updated below.

I like the 39" Samsung LED TV for main display and 1080p is just fine for me. I can read all text in Sonar clearly, sitting about 3 feet away. The price for the 39" is very close to the 27" and I would have gotten 2x 39" if I got a larger space.

Nicely done. Can you take a picture of the space with the lights on? Interested to see how you mounted that monitor below the TV

TerraSin,

Thanks, here's how it's mounted - The Samsung TV is placed on a higher cabinet while the 3 other monitors sits on a lower work bench. The original work bench height was taller, I got it's 4 legs sawed off about 3 - 4" sometime back, not thinking about this setup, rather it was used as an electric piano stand.

Also due to the Dell monitor stand and it's 2 rubber stopper at the bottom, that prevented it from slipping away. The Dell monitor simply rest on the Samsung TV's stand.

haha that's actually quite brilliant. I was expecting something like a custom wooden box for it to keep it at that angle. Cheers, mate. :)

Recently I connected a third monitor via the MB vga port.

I had to change the BIOS setting to recognize the MB port as the primary so it boot be recognized by windows.

Luckily the display card and the MB use AMD chips so no conflict with the drivers.

I have this monitor set to the far right. Windows is set for the left monitor to be primary. But when the computer boots all the windows open on the third.

Nice to have Sonar's CV across the two right monitors with tracks on left and buses on the right.
