Slightly fed up of these student/teacher offers

I've put 2 kids thru college
and the thoughts of haing to pay full price, whilst subsidising these deals slightly grates

perhaps I'm just getting old and grumpy

so no interest here

I'm presently a qualifying student and with all due respect to Sound Toys that offer is unimpressive. One authorization only, non-transferrable. So if I have a major component failure that requires a replacement, my computer hardware ID changes and I can't reinstall?  I'll definitely pass. The iLok requirement by itself is a deal breaker.

Years ago this company had a page on their website FAQ.  "Do not ask for discounts.  We do not discount." (paraphrasing, but that was pretty much the idea )  No discounts for whatever reason.

Much like Motu and, "no windows.  never.  when hell freezes over perhaps, but no." (paraphrasing)

My, my, has the economy changed.  Sorry but, "you need to have your software in a constant state of development, if you want to stay ahead of the game; or risk seeming old and useless."   Which is where soundtoys is at...  Some cool plugs ins, "echo boy, filterfreak," but nothing new..  nothing updated....  if you haven't already bought, and used them for years...  why would you?

Well as its iLok you should be able to reinstall as many times as you like as long as you have the iLok. That is the only plus point of such a device.

So iLok doesn't care about computer hardware ID? That's worth noting. Still, it would require some must-have, heaven-sent software to get me to finally succumb to purchasing one, and it hasn't happened yet.

I still consider Echoboy being a useful delay unit but since it is only 32bit it is not even installed on my new pc. If 64bit comes I think that would boost sales of it. The scary part is that they say they were forced to rewrite the code totally which might change it slightly. (to worse?)
Hopefully we'll see 64bit this year. But I doubt...
If anyone can recommend an alternative to Echoboy, I'm all ears.

$249??? Most college students are searching under the couch cushions for enough change to buy a pizza.
