I know they are "WAVES" plugins and that there is a price reduction..... but they have been around for a while, how do the rate against some of the newer stuff out there fabfilter for example?????

A good code is a good code. It does not become old like hardware.
New VST might have nicer GUI but it's still the sound coming out of it that counts.
Some Waves VST are good, some from competitors are better.
But as a bundle the GOLD is great.

I don't own the Gold Bundle, so I can't say for all plug-ins. The ones I own however are very, very good. The Renaissance stuff is classic - these plug-ins are still used daily by top engineers. That stuff works, sounds great and is easy to use.

Technology did evolve since those plug-ins came out - but for the biggest part, it seems that we got better at modeling classic hardware. In other words, maybe a 1176 model from 2012 will blow an older model of the same unit out of the water in terms of modeling accuracy. But a good compressor like the Renaissance comp is still just as good as it was 10 years ago.
