I, too, support Obi....

What is the harm?  I mean really?

We all post deals when we find out about them so
others benefit!!!  What's the harm if Obi, as a member
of the forum, posts the same or give us a heads up
about what IK is doing?

No harm, no foul IMHO
Thanks Obi!!

all i saw, is what the moderators probally saw ..60% OFF Ampeg SVX.. WOWW!! whether the post was an ad/spam or whatever. it was a nice heads up and good lookin out. and it is very relative to alot of members..

you self-appointed forum hall monitors kill me man. if the moderators didnt concern themselves with the thread, then theres no need to police and tattle tale on grown people on the Non cakewalk Software forum. no disrepect, it just seems so petty.

I know, I hate doing it myself.

So why somebody purporting to be an intelligent person can't read the the simple relevant point in the TOS and play ball completely defeats me.

What's worse is that I don't disrespect anybody elses view on the subject and don't expect anybody to adopt my own personal views or even agree with them but for the reasons I've already made clear in this thread which of course make perfect sense to me, I don't understand the abuse that follows somebody expressing an anti-spam point of view.

For example I don't recall anybody asking you if you were 'for real' just for having a view on the subject.

Some are against spamming some ain't I get that.  Can't we all just get along?

I wouldn't have even entered this discussion if somebody else wasn't getting personally slammed yet again for a view I happen to agree with.  I'd have simply reported it quietly and moved on.  He didn't want that and nor do I, so why does this ONE individual persist on abusing the terms he agreed to abide by when he signed up?

I have a MOTU 896HD in very nice shape for sale. I'm asking $325 and buyer pays shipping and insurance. PM me. Pictures upon request. Works well with SONAR.

Apart from being a bloody killjoy - this is the software forum, so

What's the moral difference - if any - between a regular member posting on the SOFTWARE forum about a great deal on Amplitude over at IK multimedia, or OBI providing a heads up?

Is this forum solely dedicated to Cakewalk software? Or is that the purpose of the X1 & Producer & Studio forums? If so, what is this forum for?

Because he is paid to do so...

It's not a sales forum that's for sure.  You wouldn't go to the trouble of putting No Advertising in the TOS otherwise.

It's for you and I to share our experience as Cakewalk users with third party software not for paid reps to come a spamming.

Go to IK's site and promote some products they will clarify the difference for you if you are REALLY having difficulty understanding it.

I really have been trying to stay out of this argument.  I've been in similar ones before and for some reason it tends to get nasty every time.

Even tho I was one of the ones who asked Obi to come back and post, I have to agree with Earl & Jon that this particular post is spamming and is against the TOS.

I DO like Obi being on these boards.  I DO like him answering questions and offering support help.  however, posting sales on items by the software company's representative is against the TOS.  it's not against the TOS for members to post information on these sales.  and yes, that seems like a grey line and a very messy double standard.  but it's still farily clear in my mind the difference between a user posting a heads up on a product that might be beneficial and a company rep posting a sale with links.

I am going to try not to continue to argue with anyone about this.  I just wanted to add my 2 cents because it was brought up that the majority of users hold the other viewpoint and I do not wish to be counted in that number regardless of where that number was derived from.

directly to Obi:  I do enjoy you being on these boards.  I do appreciate your help and insight on IK products.  but I personally do not think you are following the TOS when you create threads like this one.  that's just my opinion and my opinion really doesn't matter since I'm not a moderator.

I'd also add that I'm not a moderator either, and just because moderators have not intervened here, probably because they have better things to do, it doesn't absolve the responsibility of a grown adult to abide by the terms he signed up for.  I've crossed the line here more than once and have taken the consequences of doing that on the chin when it has happened.

Obi does know the difference.  He continually elects to cross the line, the disturbance caused on either side of the fence is of his making and nobody elses.

It doesn't even show the company he represents in a good light and makes me think that they don't care about the customers they service as long as they can get the word out by whatever dodgy means available, if this indeed is part of their policy and not just Obi's personal agenda.

No Advertising isn't a messy double standard it simply means No Advertising.
