After a few years of having all my gear in dry dock, I'm back, baby.  Upgraded to Sonar X1 PS, and have added a few plug-ins.
My question is--on my bookshelf are my old versions of Soundsoap2, Antares products (Kantos, Autotune, etc.) Is anyone familiar with or have thoughts about introducing these into the newer Sonar environment?

You will need to add the locations to where they are stored. Go to Edit>Preferences>down to VST Settings> click the Add button and add the location where the VST is and rescan. Hope that helps

I would be a little wary of the Antares programs until you know your are up to date with the Pace protection drivers.

I crossed a threshold with Autotune years back when doing an O/S upgrade and I was null and void as far as Autotune was concerned.

If you install them, I would make sure you have system restore engaged and save some restore points as you go.

Kantos still works just fine, I don't use the others you specifically mentioned. As a rule, you can scan VSTs and they will likely work. If you are running the x64 version of Sonar you'll need a bridge to access older (read x86) plug-ins, there is one integrated into Sonar, and there is J-Bridge, doesn't seem to be a clear winner, one works better for some plugs, the other for others. DirectX plug-ins are a different matter - you need to register them using regserver, and then it's a crap shoot. There is a wrapper (search for XUL, DX to VST) that works with many DX plug-ins. Fortunately for me, I have only a handful of DX plug-ins I'm really going to miss... but even at that it will require some leg work!

Both are free.

Word of caution on the 64bit version of the second one. It only seems (for me) to find 64bit DX/DXi plugs even tough I point to where the 32bit DX/DXi plugs are located.

The 32bit version and the first link (which is only 32bit) both find the 32bit DX/DXi plugs if your path points to them. Bot operate a little differently. I tend to like the second link's product a bit more.

Which Antares product uses Pace protection.  I can't remember?

So--is the x86 directory on my hard drive--a list of all the bridges in my OS?

Thanks for the info.  You guys have experience and knowledge that really helps.  God, don't we all get tired of this kind of hamster-wheel, work-around OS nonsense. Preaching to the choir, just sayin.  I'm going to have to learn more about this 'wrapper/bridge' process; Scares me.
