I don't ever get the Summer update but I'm always interested in what may be new.

I've never looked into this software much, really, but wonder about if they might ever update the GUI, and how or if this software might be useful for scoring and generating songwriting ideas. Are there any users out here using this to create new and original  music?

Yes.  it's my "go to" software for helping me create original music.  Usually the way I write new music is that I'll bang out a melody for a hook on keyboard.  then I'll start creating chords around that.   once I've got that done, I'll enter those chords in BIAB and start building the song from there using their different styles and different instruments to help me hear it as I go.

Recorded live(!), BTW. You still need to know how to play. Winky wink.

Which addition would you recommend if I could get any one without actually buying more than I need?

Amazing video. Great song. Reading the notes on it, he gives considerable credit to BIOB for expanding his creativity and musical talent. I'm sure I could dive right into something like this and that it would do the same for me- although I'm not sure if it'll make me into an Emerson or Wakeman.
This is intriguing, indeed. I like a lot of different styles of music. Does it also cover classical and film scoring types?

I watched some of the videos and I'm not sure I need something like this, but it could be useful, perhaps. Some people surely think so. The above YouTube video was impressive.

I'm not very impressed with the interface, though. It would probably take some getting used to, because it looks like something that predates my old Amiga 500 Bars and Pipes Professional software- my very first sequencer. :)

I never could get past the interface either. Yuk.

well, I'm not sure how to answer that because I don't konw what your needs are.  I keep up to date with BIAB every year (it releases 2x per year).  I always buy the hard drive version of the ultra pack.  basically I buy everything you can get in the package without adding extras like the video tutorials and the extra song sets (I don't need any cover songs) and without buying the "audiophile" version.  if you're buying it for the first time, the ultra pack is $469.  I've spent more than that on upgrades, but I started out with BIAB 11 which was only $100 or something and have upgraded from there.

and yes, I agree with you as do MANY others, the GUI is awful and I wish they'd update it.  it's also a little "flaky" in use, but it works.

Don't be fooled by the interface it is an amazingly powerful writing aid with many really advanced features that have never been matched elsewhere.

The interface is just a result of the programming environment used to create it and sure it ain't pretty but then you ain't supposed to be going on a date with it...
