The interface is just a result of the programming environment used to create it and sure it ain't pretty but then you ain't supposed to be going on a date with it...

Ain't that the truth.

I asked my BIAB out on numerous dates and it declined EVERY ONE of them.

also, (especially if you're into standards), some of PG's other products such as the 'the jazz pianist' are really nice.

they had 'the jazz guitarist' at one point. seems to have disappeared though. great stuff in that one too.

Thanks for the word on the GUI, guys. I always enjoy JonBuoy's straightforward comments.

Yes, it aint pretty at all, and I'd be spending a lot of time with it- more than any date, and the procedures I saw seemed a bit ridiculous and counter intuitive. Nevertheless, it may be all of those things because they're afraid to change it and alienate users that abide by this ridiculous way of doing things.

If, however, the program is truly useful and productive, this may all be worth enduring and navigating through. Even Bapu, has a positive outlook on this ugly beast. With Bapu's trademark endorsement, I can almost be assured of quality. Now if Yoropal or Bitflipper were to give their blessings, there could be no doubt that this is the pure gold of montezuma.

Are there any users out here using this to create new and original  music?

Yup... it is my GO TO songwriting tool.  If you go to my web site...select MY MUSIC, and listen to the music there...... well, it's safe to say that just about all of it (99%) was composed using BB to enter the chords and song structure in the writing process.

Much of what you hear instrumentally is BB as well. I play guitar and some keys, but the steel, fiddle, dobro, and piano in many cases are BB instruments. The drums and bass in just about every song are BB tracks.

It is, without a doubt, my favorite writing tool. It will not write the song for you, but it sure makes it easy to sketch out and try new ideas quickly while the muse is happening.

As far as what package do you need or want....? That is totally up to you. They sell everything from the basic to the audiophile version.

Friendly folks, who know the product, and live phone tech support.

ADD: don't let the GUI fool you. It looks deceptively simple, and in some ways that is a good thing. Being simple, it's easy to learn to work with and it gets the job done.  You're not trying to make a pretty looking GUI screen...... it's what the end results sound like that matters most to me.  Once you learn a few things about the GUI and how to manipulate the chord chart, you can do some pretty cool and amazing things in the song as a result.

Listen to the songs on my website and listen to the fills and little articulations in the music.  If you have questions, feel free to PM me.

Hope that helps you.

Until you pull one of the drop down menus down. Then, lots of head scratching:)

Hey Herb. The "paks" are confusing to me.
With the "everything pak", do you get everything that is available for BIAB?
Thanks

I think one of the reason for it's "kinder garden gui" was because it was initially being promoted as an educational tool
for use in schools and colleges and so wasn't really meant for serious musicians.
My brother is a classical guitarist and music teacher who's been telling me for years I should get it.

No offence to people who use it but I like my songs to be mine alone.
It just seems as bad as sampling in some ways to just throw some chords in to the big music making machine and see what comes
out the other end.
It has got a lot better though, it used to rely solely on Roland sound canvas for it's instruments but my bro tells me there are real drums now.

Steve

And as for "new and original music" well it's hardly what you'd call cutting edge

Tim - the everything pack includes everything except the video tutorials and some of the solo sets.  personally I don't use the solo set s at all - that's my job!

If you mean played only by you, that's cool. But if you think BIAB is in the driver's seat as far as composition, then that is a horse of another story. Oh wait, you use BFD2 right? Those drum samples were not done by you were they?

Uh oh, it's the 1980's all over again.

But I'm 100% positive they are not BFD2 so how can they be "real drums", roight?

No, I mean composed arranged, programmed and played by me in the style that is of my own making and as for the drums that come with biab, from what I've heard they are actually quite good.
Not as good as BFD2 obviously but I'm easy when it comes to drums

I do write/program all my own drums to and never have and never will use loops.
Gosh I'm just amazing when I come to think of it
