I have seen some of you (especially Carl) report favorably about Nebula 3.  Instead of highjacking another thread, I thought I would start a new one.

I found this page which "explains" the different versions of Nebula : http://www.acustica-audio...p;id=22&Itemid=147
Who here uses Nebula 3 and what are the advantages or disadvantages of using it?  Is it a CPU hog?  Is it really difficult to use?  etc....

It seems economical for the sheer number [16] of plugins offered in the Nebula 3 package (under $100).  And for about $172 you get the Nebula 3 pro bundle.  Is Nebula 3 sufficient, or is there a real advantage of having the Nebula 3 pro?

Finally, is there a demo version of Nebula 3? [is that what the free version is?]

I hope Carl and others post as to its value and usefulness or problems.  Thanks.

cecelius2,

I'd check out the Nebula site & forum, briefly:
-There's a certain learning curve, you'll need patience at first.
-The 3rd party programs are what you'll end up using, not the factory ones.
-You do need a powerful puter & be prepared to spend a certain amount of time rendering tracks or submixes. Pretty sure you'll need the Pro version for most demo programs.
-The programs themselves can be very large.
-confusing / frustrating workflow- You use single instances so i.e. a 4 band eq needs 4 instances inserted for each freq. (Sonar's FX chains come in very handy for this.)
-great eq's, tapes & console programs. Comps are not one of Nebula's stregnths, although I understand the newer programs have improved quite a bit.
-VST plugin software devolopment is getting better all the time, don't know what Nebula's future plans are so it may not be worth the investment.

3rd party programs-

I purchased nebula a few years back after reading a very positive review in a magazine - it turned out to be an absolute nightmare programme, a major CPU hog and difficult to use.
When I went 64 bit last year I didn't even think about loading it on my new system and just consigned it to history as a very bad purchase.
I honestly think there are  better and far more user friendly programs available today - unless they have totally revised the workflow / GUI and made it less of a CPU hog, I would never consider it personally. A bad experience to say the least!

Thanks Carl and Bajan Blue.  You two have given me enough info to put this idea on the back burner and off the "to buy list".  I played with the free version for a while last night and thought I could get the same results easier with plugins I already own.  Again, your info is what I needed to hear/read.
