Wow Julien!  That's one impressive list.  I'm not talking about whatever was on it (I couldn't be arsed to read all of it), but that the forum software allowed you to put all those linefeeds in!

Well Rain it doesn't look like that anymore. Something must be happening here because they say that a cluttered space means you are working, kind of like a house that looks "lived in".

Here are a few I took last night. Dust is everywhere because we burn coal and I haven't had a chance to dust yet. The door you see is not used right now. Maybe one day I'll get more space.

I want to get a second pair of monitors eventually. I don't want to invest in sound treatment because I might be moving it all, so for now ARC does ok with my MTH-50s.

Pretty cool! Even if it isn't my palette, I think the colors create a great ambience.

That's one of the things for which I'm trying to evaluate my options right now - creating the ambience in the room. I'm used to red - lots of it, but I don't know how it'd work here. And black. I'm still not sure how it'll go.

I know what they say about clutter and I understand, but it just doesn't work for me.  Heck, I'll tell you - my studio has always been the cleanest most well kept room anywhere where I lived. Even when I lived there 24/7, ate there, got drunk in there and slept there... It was kept impeccable.

What I use on a regular basis needs its dedicated place. What I rarely use needs to be stored somewhere where I can easily find it. What I don't use... Well, I most likely got rid of that ages ago. I've always traveled lightly.

And the goal is to streamline even more. For example, the new audio interface - while it won't take much more space than the one I'm using now, it will allow me to get rid of my little hardware mixer AND most probably my preamp.

Julien - that's an impressive list indeed.

Reminds me of a friend's studio in Brooklyn where we tracked some vocals last summer. You should have seen me putting my hands on a legendary Harrison 4032 board - same Bruce Swedien used...

That being said, and, actually, as I was discussing w/ my wife yesterday... As impressive as the gear was (that session featured the single most expensive signal chain I have ever heard "live"), in terms of sound, I actually preferred a performance that was captured w/ a more modest set up.

It was recorded in that suite in NY by the friend I mentioned in the first post - in a less than ideal room, w/ no vocal boot or soundproofing, using a Blueberry Mic in an Avalon tube pre/compressor.

The room looked kind of like this - but w/ better gear. That's my own portable set up back then. But same room, windows all around, no sound treatment whatsoever...

That recording helped me put things in perspective.

Wow Rain, that's a very clean looking setup.I plan to eventually dust but I'm afraid it might change my acoustics ;)
