Sony is notorious for taking a long time to get updates completed. One of the reasons I stopped using Acid Pro because they waited too long to make it agreeable with win7.

Can't be too careful here javahut. The fact that they didn't offer a 64 bit demo causes me to question it.Hopefully I am wrong here.
64 bit demo IS indeed available - just click on the arrow (dropdown) file list:

"64-bit" is listed next to "Version Mac OS". Next to "Version Windows" is clearly listed "32-bit".

Hi,

Just curious to know why you would want a 64bit version for Windows ? The 32bit is 64bit compatible, and memory management in SpectraLayers would not gain anything from a 64bit version.

Does it need to be bridged to be compatible?

No, it runs natively on any 64bit OS (as any 32bit app BTW).

Eh... just a little biased against a company, especially as big and supposedly technologically advanced as Sony, releasing what they categorize as a new piece of software (when we all know they got it from Divide Frame) in an older format, for what seems like quite a large price for it being 32 bit software. And not at all convinced at this point they'll ever update it or improve on it, since it's not their app to begin with.

Other than that, no real reason. Unless perhaps you wanted to get into large sound files with many layers that possibly would benefit from extra RAM.

Did you buy it? If so, is it running well for you on Win7? Is it doing everything you expected it do as well as you expected it to do it?

Thanks,
Randall

Sony is the publisher of SpectraLayers, Divide Frame remains the developer.
...and since I am Divide Frame, I can tell you that it will be updated/improved for sure !
But for now there's no reason to go 64bit for the Windows version, it's as fast in 32bit due to the way memory is managed in SpectraLayers (realtime streaming & computation). Even if you have 30 layers 30min long each in the same project.
The Mac version is 64bit simply because of the frameworks, but it doesn't use more memory.

Sadly some people just don't get that idea, all they see is 64 is twice as many as 32.  There are certainly applications that benefit from being 64 bit but I swear myself I can't see where being 32 bit is any handicap here.

It certainly looks interesting to me and Sony now publishing it seems to have raised its profile some because I'd never come across it before.

I'm off to investigate further.

Great! I appeciate you responding with that information. I've been looking all over the internet for just that kind of info... so I'd feel comfotable that I wasn't buying into relatively high priced software that wouldn't be supported in the not too distant future. Yeah, I know there's no guarantee on any software, but there's so little info out there on SpectraLayers, and with it being traceable back to Divide Frame so easily, AND supposedly being "new" software but only 32 bit... enough to make me more than a little skeptical.

You do have to admit, though, that a company coming out with "new" software (Sony) in this day and age, and NOT having it in a native 64 bit version, would (or should) make you look a little closely at what exactly it is. And then on top of it, there being no explanation as to why it is what it is just now, the relatively high entry fee, and no real fully functioning demo available... it's gotta make you wonder.

But I really appreciate the info. Maybe others will be able to find this info now, and be more comfortable of what's going on with it... enough to buy into it. I know it's dropped down the threads of several other music forums, and I think it's mainly because of this (no demo, price, real source of the software and that it's still current for Divide Frame). It'd be much better if Sony and Divide Frame would officially put this info out with the release. I think you'd get more favorable response (that, and an at least semi-full functioning demo).

But thanks for taking the time to post the info!
