I've been simmering some beef vegetable soup all afternoon. I decided to taste it. It was no longer boiling and I took a little in a small spoon, blew on it, and sipped it out of the spoon. All I could do was blow it back out of my mouth ASAP. I mean, yeah, I've sipped coffee before that was too hot but this was to a whole different level... I have NEVER had anything this hot in my mouth. It got to top of my tongue and the back of my throat. It's been about an hour. I took a spoon of honey, been sipping ice water, and have some single malt on the rocks... any ideas what might help? I don't think I will ba able to taste the soup...

The single malt... that is a different thing, new to me. I've never bought any good single malt Scotch whiskey before. I had no idea what I was missing. This is a bit like fine old leather. That may sound weird but it is really good. It is BOWMORE Islay and I recommend it.

I am glad that the mouth heals quickly...

{ouch} sorry to hear about that!

Immediately suck on an ice cube and have chilled water; swishing it around the effected areas as you drink. Some alcohol drinks are cool but try to avoid hot food and drinks for a day or so, especially if you feel the burn is that bad. If you're not better within 48 hours? You might have to see a doctor.

Not sure what the doc will do, probably skin grafts from who knows where but only if the burns are very severe.

There is also a mouth wash made by Orajel Antiseptic Mouth Sore Rinse
that is very soothing and aids healing.

I have, definitely had an accident like this before.  There was one instance in my life, where I really burned my mouth, just as you are describing now, but fortunately I can not remember the year, month, or anything more about it other than, "ouch, I've totally done that too."

The mouth seems to heal pretty quickly, but if you have burned it, as bad I think, you may be in for a week of, "damn it, this sucks."

Ice cream, or sorbet, loads of iced water, and avoid solid, hard or sharp food.  No chips, bread, crunch cereal, fried chicken or fish...   basically, "nothing crispy."

You can eat mushy meat..  for example, "southern style bbq ribs."    not too spicy, not hot off the grill.   + green salads for a week, should do you well...

Yes, it's mushy food for you from hereon.

Tonights Special  - Slithering Oysters:
They slither down your throat easily, barely touching the insides of your cheeks.

Supersized Smoothie:
Prepare all cooked meats, leftovers, fruit and vegetables, all roughly diced. The following into a large food processor:

slice of pizza

1 hotdog
1 taco
slice of meatloaf
dash of ketchup, mustard, salt n pepper
6 chicken nuggets
some chopped liver
6 rashes of BECON
2 pork sausages
1 cheese burger and fries
cup of chilled milk
tub of yoghurt
1 banana
cup of blueberries, blackberries, strawberries
1 apple
2 slices of melon
1 orange
1 mango
1 kiwi fruit
1 cellery
2 carrots
2 beets
1 parsnip
1 turnip
1 rutabaga
1 sweet potato
1 onion
clove of garlic
piece of ginger
pinch of cinnamon
dash of chili
1/2 cup of oatmeal
1/2 cup of flaxseed meal
cup of spinach
1 cucumber
cup of cabbage and lettuce
2 tomatoes
cup of ice cubes
Blend all the above into a Ninja Pro Food Processer.

It's like having a supersized meal sucked through a straw.

Just curious, but what was the CRAP doing in your mouth in the first place?  And, couldn't you have just spit it out instead of burning it out?  Strange stuff!

lesson learned....

I always blow on something hot to cool it a bit.... soup, coffee, hot chocolate,,,,,

The one that ALWAYS gets me is Pizza.... that hot cheeze on that first bite, it's so good but so hot that it takes the skin off right behind the upper front teeth.....

Yeah I still haven't learned my lesson on hot pizza.

@ James... True!

@ Herb ... I DID. It was just a little broth in a spoon. I had no idea anything coud be that hot. I shoud have just spit it out but with normal "too hot' you can swallow it, this stuff hit the back of my throat and my body just reacted by spraying it out. My throat  is better still hurts a little, top of tongue is still numb/burned feeling but I don't have any blisters that I can see. I will never assume anything like that again.

@ SC.. Yogurt and fudge pops.

@ LP soft food is good! Coke was to much yesterday, Sprite went down OK.

I think I'll be OK, still sort of coughing but I am not hoarse anymore so I think I dodged a bullet but not completely.

Thanks!!

I feel so ignored...

@Guitarhacker - Pizza is the one that gets me too.  It's so much fun to peel skin off the roof of your mouth isn't it?
