I've had to work on a video project at work and really started seeing the advantages of production specific controllers.
I don't like control surfaces for audio production myself, and I still use my DAW for non-DAW stuff like email, etc.
So I thought I was going to have to replace my keyboard recently and found this company that makes computer keyboards that are sequencer/video editor program specific.
 
What do you think about this for Sonar X2? I happen to use shortcuts a lot, but I'm new to the "X" series of Sonar and have a lot to get used to.

If the pricetag is an issue, an alternate (economical) thing you might want to consider is getting these keyboard stickers (about $6.61): http://www.4keyboard.com/sonarxkeyboardstickers-p-493.html

Yeah, I thought about that, but I'm probably going to have to buy a new keyboard anyway, so I was wondering about the quality, usefulness of the one I linked to.

I can imagine that speeding up things for Sonar X2/X3, the pricetag is similar to or approaches those for gaming keyboards in the market. Will the keyboard manufacturer support future updates of Sonar or is the keyboard "configurable" assuming, say, Sonar X4 (and later on X5...) have additional key command shortcuts in the future?

Personally, I'll go for wireless keyboard and mouse + key stickers.

I'd personally find a keyboard that feels good to you and get the stickers. Support is the biggest reasons for this. I've never heard of LogicKeyboard before so I don't know how well their support is at working with customers or how well their drivers/software work where as I know and trust a company like Logitech and I can get a keyboard I know I will like using.

Look, a workable keyboard is incredibly cheap. You can usually find one in the 10.00-20.00 range with no problem that will last as long as your motherboard will still be current. If you add 7.00 for the stickies you have the same thing for less than 30.00. you save enough to buy something unique and really useful.

Well, I appreciate the input from everyone. For me, $100 is a lot to spend on any keyboard, so it better be good and useful, etc.
 
I went online and emailed the company and asked them if they would send me a sheet that showed which mapped shortcuts were on the keyboard because you can't really make them all out in the photo.
 
The sales director emailed me that that information was proprietary, bla bla. He said if I'm familiar with the Sonar shortcuts then I would know what's mapped on the keyboard.
 
I asked if all of the shortcuts were mapped, and he said 'no, just the most popular ones'.
 
So, I'm supposed to pay $100 for a keyboard where I don't know which shortcuts are on it and they won't tell me?

There are others that make these too. I have got an Editors Keys keyboard for Studio One and I really like it. Although it is fine for PC it is based more around that great MAC keyboard.

Wireless mouse and keyboards are a pain because the mice are heavy and their batteries will run out too. Unnecessary considering they are right next to your computer. Don't go stickers either. Been down that path for Sonar actually and I did not like them much.

I bet these guys don't even do music production. lol
