I'll bet this topic is around already. But why is it that every new generation is OBSESSED with the sound of Autotune? I mean, I guess it sounds cool as an effects, but there are TWO problems here:
  1. The sound is PLAYED OUT! Everyone uses AT as an effect and it's come to a point that it's expected.
  2. The industry has forgotten that AT is (probably) meant as a tool, and not an effect. Something to enhance the existing sound, not change it.
All due respect meant. It's just that someone somewhere decided to take something useful and skew it into one of the most overused, outplayed things on the planet. (Mind you, this post is regarding using it to morph the voice to achieve that 'T-Pain Effect'.)

Watcha guys think?

I thought Autotune was to be used to correct the pitch on a flat or sharp note.

It allows those that can only go DO, RE, ME, ME, ME, ME, ME, ME to record things as DO, RE, ME, FA, SO, LA, TE, DO.

I use it to prove that my friends can't sing.

I think the effect belonged to Cher, long before T-Pain came around...    Aside from that, there exists no famous vocalist, in 2013, who can actually sing.
