I bought the Pultec Pro EQ tonight with my $50 voucher and the sale discount.  $20 out of pocket for that one.  I used the demo on a recent project and I was afraid that if I had to do another mix, I'd have shot myself in the foot.

I got three of the cheapies in my cart for Friday.  They are pretty much 50% off - Fairchild Compressor, LA-3A compressor and the Cooper Time cube.  I like the sound of the demos and they're pretty much what I do when it comes to tools.

Fairchild gets used a LOT on my bass tracks. I'm lusting after the Lexicon.

I've finally heard UAD plug-ins in action over at a friend's studio before we moved here. All I can say is I need one!!!

Unfortunately for me, the most affordable solution they had for the laptop has been discontinued and I have lots of things on my list before I even get to powered plug-ins considering the asking price even for the most modest UAD set up. So I'll stick w/ Waves for now.

Glad to hear you're enjoying yours.

Yeah, there's a lot to lust after.  I went for the low hanging fruit first.

I've got most of the low hanging stuff. But I will tell you, the Little Labs variable phase tool (can't remember the exact name) is one of the better "cheap" UAD plugs I've ever bought. It's a monster on stereo acoustic guitar tracks. Big, fat and wide with my miking technique.

BTW, you WILL be purchasing more cards. :) I've got a Quad and a Solo and really wish I had a second Quad. I typically run the Studer on every track (first insert).

The only thing I can do with the motherboard I have is to replace the Solo with a Duo or a Quad.  I only had one spare PCI-E slot left.

Dave - Just FYI, the UAD-2 cards work just fine in a regular, long PCIe X 16 slot if you might have one of those.

Thanks, I'll check that out.  I'm trying to recall what I have in the machine that's taking up slots.  I think I might have used a slot for a PCI-E video card.

I did a blind test for Philz of the Lexi, Valhalla Room and UAD EMT 140 on a Juliana vocal.

His preference (in order)

1. Valhalla Room
2. UAD Lexi
3. UAD EMT 140

He thought 1 & 2 were very close but preferred #1.

Since I already own 1 & 3 I did not buy the Lexi, FWIW.
