I recently watched a friends PC getting wiped empty by a malware in 30 seconds. The protection software was up to date F-Secure, one of the best  money can buy.
The damage was done as fast as the protection software could inform that the virus is destroyed. The malware was hidden in a pdf-file that was sent to him.

That was one more reason I don't like anything that needs my music PC being on-line.

Why is it anything to do with haters?

I choose to rent accomodation in preference to owning a house.  It's a choice that may baffle some but so what?  What would get me though is a landlord being underhand and not making clear the full extent of his terms in a two-way  contract.

Also I don't get why some people would want to join a subscription service just in order to listen to music.  There's no hate as long as I'm not compelled to do the same I merely choose not to follow suit.

If a software vendor is declaring the extent of the data that is required to continue that service I can elect to continue doing business with them or choose not to.  If I'm not happy about the transparency of the privacy policy, terms or how their software behaves on my system it would likely put me off doing ANY business with them.

It would also put me off if my computer had to be on-line while I was using the product rather than just as a matter of updating it, I also don't like not having the means to 'roll-back' when a new release introduces issues so that would be part of any decision I'd make on a product being the right one for me.

If you are happy with the terms, the company you are dealing with the product and benefits you are gaining for your cash then why not?

Or are you posing this like a question because YOU have some doubts about it?

If people are willing to be herded like cattle and milked at regular intervals that's fine by me as long as I'm not compelled to join the line.  Live and let live I say...

I used it a few days ago....

It did wipe out my free stuff...and my midi paks...

But all is well now....it was pretty painless...

Not much for the color scheme...but really doesn't matter...LOL

Addictive Drums are GREAT in my opinion....and I have them ALL except BFD...I do have an older BFD lite...but not installed...

I like the idea and welcome it.

Windows has been telling me for years when it wants updating, I choose the time and what updates get installed and off it goes.

I've never had a problem with that.

(or have I?)

Same procedure with my AV software, browser plug-ins and browser itself.  Is this thing somehow spookily different to those kind of things?  I don't own any of their products so I don't know.

(btw my update notifications are currently turned off for both my browser and Flash plug-in because the latest updates both cause issues for me.  It's important to be able to roll-back in these circumstances I find.  I take it there is provision for that here.)

ouch..those are the scariest kinds..the text or pdf's with viruses.
though not downing on your friend but most of the time a script is decent in size,at least the ones that are able to do the damage they did to him.
he should have recognized it in the size of the file.pdf's arent to large when there isnt alot of text or pictures.
a "hitch" is what some of us like to call what your friend got.is becoming more and more frequent,here is why.
 
your anti virus builds up a friendly scanning level of looking into your files when downloaded or on your computer.
more times then not,pdf's..text.doc's...word doc...exc.
have nothing in them so your anti virus builds a reputation on these TYPES of files.
there for skimming them lightly in some cases.
also some users set up exclustions to skip over scanning pdf's..text files..word docs..mp3's..mpeg 4..exc.
because it yeild faster performance. 
 
the reason "hitches" haven become more popular untill now in the virus world is because most of time visably you can see the file is larger then expected and you will delete it.
but its become noticed the scripts are packed tighter,but when packed tight they have a higher failure rate.
well that was up untill someone designed a fuse.
a fuse is a small file like a script and an exe. that starts the hitch,therefor exploding the virus.
 
i feel for your buddy man.
i did a paper a while back on viruses and free anti virus and how it reacts compared to the full paid versions.
the results are so astonishing you would never buy anti virus again.you would simply get a free trial like avg,aviria,comodo.
but the best out there we found was ,avast anti virus free edition.

No. It's similar to knowing you can go to Windows Update (if you have it turned off) and let it automatically tell you what you "can" update.

Honestly, I thought their previous system worked pretty well, but I guess this new system means more Adpaks and kit pieces soon? We can only hope. I did have some initial trouble with the VST right after installing (it came up with an error when I tried loading it in Sonar), but fortunately re-installing the installer app and rescanning plugins in Sonar did the trick. Works fine now, and my old projects still load correctly.
