What do you think of these component for a mini ITX daw :

- Asus Z87I-PRO (I'm planning to use the built-in graphic)
- 2x8 GIG (Kingston HyperX1600 Mhz)
- i7 4790K
- 2x Samsung 128G SSD
- APEVIA X-Fit-200 Mini-ITX Case with 250W PSU
...anything else I'm missing ? (beside the keyboard, mouse, monitor)

Questions :

Is a single 128G sufficient for Win 8 OS + Sonar (and some common VSTs - Ozone, T-Racks, Syncmaster, AAS, Nomad, etc, but not a lot - I don't use Komplete, yet) ?

I may mix 1 SSD with a notebook drive. What do you think of the WD Notebook Drive 7200 rpm 500GB - as good as a regular desktop 7200 rpm drive ?

I found a Clevo based notebook OEM that supplies a system with the i7 (edit) 4710MQ 4810MQ processor, with almost matching cost (if I consider the notebook display monitor, keyboard, etc..) but much better portability. Would the desktop i7 4790K processor achieve better low latency compared to the notebook i7 4710MQ 4810MQ ?

Thanks.

I just used a 128 SSD as C drive and after W 8.1 , Sonar and a whole bunch of music apps it's at 85 Gigs free space so if your not gunna store data It saves a few bucks over the bigger drives.
I'm still using 1TB sata's for data but will add a bigger ssd for data next paycheck. Your power supply seems small, but I guess these new drives don;t need much. I've always used at least a 500 watt.

I'm having problem ordering the APEVIA X-Fit-200 Mini-ITX Case with 250W PSU from Amazon and Newegg, from my country anyway (Malaysia).. My next option is a larger slim case with 450W PSU. Beside having more space for HDD, it can also fit a normal ITX board. Yet, it can still fit inside a travel case.

I'll just go ahead with the diy.. at least I know it will be more powerful than my current system.

The mini-iTX machine will *SMOKE* the laptop.

I'd want a more substantial PS
At this point, I wouldn't want a SSD smaller than 250GB
250GB SSD for boot drive would leave some room to grow
Forget the 2.5" conventional HD
I'd go with a Z97 motherboard

Will the 250W PSU be sufficient for the Quadcore i7 4790K + every other component listed especially when running the rig near full load with multiple Virtual instruments, FX plug-ins and DAW?

Thanks for all the suggestions!

Found a chart regarding (EDIT) mini Itx boards for power consumption.. it goes quite high (in gaming mode), could the reading includes high end graphic card ? :

(scroll down to power consumption and click on cpu load or gaming) ..

And a benchmark for board latency :
