i need a basic tutorial,
based on using 'common' compressors available,
such as sonitus, or waves C1, etc.......

i'm looking for:
1. kick sidechained to bass guitar
2. vox sidechained to rhythm guitars
3. vocal fx sidechained to.......... what?

thanks in advance

p.s. i've always been a bit of a 'purist' in my mixing,
sticking to basics, very simple scenarios, with as little fx used as possible.
not many tricks,  just straight up mixing, with some basic buss FX, a few individual channel inserts.......
i'm looking to expand my bag of tricks.

i watched that one...
i could not figure out anything he was doing.
without a narrative and explanation, it does me no good.

i see that a compressor is used, but i don't know where it is placed, and how the kick is routed to it to trigger the bass track.

kick gets send.....
to compressor, which is.... where? i'm on 6PE, don't have the same layout....
etc....

i see two compressors, 1st the sonitus, then it goes away, i see a 2nd compressor,  i understand the tweaks, but cannot figure out the routing

Does this help https://www.cakewalk.com/.../Sidechaining-in-SONAR with routing?

i get the distinct impression that no one here does what i'm asking about...

the example gives me some ideas,
but does not walk me thru the scenarios i'm most interested in.

I've done the kick/bass sidechain method previously, when I needed to, but I don't do it anymore. I still use sidechain signals all the time for other uses.

Basically, you put the compressor that has a sidechain input on the bass, then add a new Send on the Kick pointed to that sidechain input. The input should show in the list of available send targets. At least, it does in Sonar X3e. I always set the send to PRE so the level doesn't change as I mix, and adjust the send level so that the sidechain input signal is not too strong. After that, you adjust the compressor to respond to the sidechain signal and have the compressor do what you want.

Dan
