so, to make sure i understand....
 
  • in this scenario, i want to duck the bass when the kick is happening during certain vocal passes.
  • the comp is placed in the channel of the track you want to 'duck', or reduce level....(in this case, the bass track)
  • and the send is from the track you want to be the 'trigger' (in this case, the drum track)
  • then adjust the comp for the sensitivity needed to do the needed task...(in this case, fast attack, fast release)
  • i assume that you can automate the 'send' so i can have the ducking effect come and go at will?

that all is correct, including the send idea (although I haven't tried that, it should work).  I wonder if you just couldn't duck the bass from a vocal send?  All the other sidechains you want follow the same steps.
