There's one born every minute.

"Start mastering - its EZ!"

Makes me think of "It's got electrolytes!" (from Mike Judge's Idiocracy).

I believe there's a place for everyone at the table.  I sparsely use my EZMix2...when I'm needing to get something done ASAP...but it works a treat when I do.  But I'm all for (and do myownself) learning and knowing how to use every single piece of kit you use well and not relying on somone elses presets for everything you do.  That said things like EZMix are time savers and can be great teaching tools.  I also think that the definition of "mastering" is getting both changed and diminished.  While it is certainly possible with current available tools to "master" your own work, for critical projects I would still recommend getting it done at a proper mastering lab by a competent mastering engineer.

ol' pal, I freely admit to being as lazy as the next guy and not at all above using shortcuts. But I refuse to use the words "mastering" and "presets" in the same sentence. Oh damn, I just did.

Could anyone do a worst job using EZ Mix mastering presets than, say, what the presumably pro mastering engineer did to Metallica's Death Magnetic, or the guy who did Depeche Mode's Playing the Angel, or the guy who butchered those Deep Purple's remastered classics?

Just waiting on the release of EZPorch.

Going to tear down my back porch & build a new one very soon. EZPorch might save me some time.

Yes & don't kid yourself.
EZ mix/ mastering is aimed at consumers wanting to emulate these artists' sound that you speak so highly of.

I tried to pitch Toon doing one called EZPeazy.  But they demured.

@Bit...Yup, we need a new definition for whatever it is that folks ARE doing now and calling mastering that so evidently isn't:-)

To be fair, the mastering engineer on Death Magnetic publicly disavowed the album and asked to not have his name listed in the credits. He said the record came to him in that condition, and blame should go to the producer. Maybe they were using EZMix.

And while we're listing examples of horrid mastering, let's not forget the travesty that was the remaster of George Harrison's All Things Must Pass. Rush's Vapor Trails, too, as long as I'm complaining about my favorite bands being raped in the mastering room.

I had never heard "Vapor Trails" but since it seems to be on so many folks list of badly mastered albums I just went and listened through to many of the cuts on Amazon and WOAH!!!!!  That is bad.  Sounds like somebody put a blanket on every tune and then smothered that in a heapin helpin of lower mid gravy with a side order of 60 hz for good measure.  Must've been a record company deal as surely Geddy and the boys wouldn't let that get out.  Or would they??
