Could anyone do a worst job using EZ Mix mastering presets than, say, what the presumably pro mastering engineer did to Metallica's Death Magnetic, or the guy who did Depeche Mode's Playing the Angel, or the guy who butchered those Deep Purple's remastered classics?
To be fair, the mastering engineer on Death Magnetic publicly disavowed the album and asked to not have his name listed in the credits. He said the record came to him in that condition, and blame should go to the producer. Maybe they were using EZMix.
And while we're listing examples of horrid mastering, let's not forget the travesty that was the remaster of George Harrison's
All Things Must Pass. Rush's
Vapor Trails, too, as long as I'm complaining about my favorite bands being raped in the mastering room.
