I see you lurking so what better time to ask you a question, ya?

Were you ever into any of the (related) Bauhaus, Love and Rockets, Tones On Tail, Peter Murphy bands?

What about Siouxie and the Banshees?

Just curious based on some of the bands you have mentioned before.

Almost sounds as if you were browsing through my record collection. ;)

As a rule of thumb, if a band dressed in black and/or wore eyeliner and/or sang about death and pain and sorrow, I probably have at least a couple of songs. lol

Ha!  The funny thing for me is that I usually never saw the bands I liked - it was only a listening thing.

Others that may or might not be similar that I have include Sisters of Mercy, Smiths, Depeche Mode, Joy Division, Electronic, Lunar Crush (the original - not the jazz fusion one), New Order, Psychedelic Furs, etc., etc.!

Got any others along that same vein that I just might not have heard of?

Regardless of how many albums I have, I've learned that there are always others out there that are completely new to me!

Off the top of my heads, you pretty much named the classics I can think of - at least right now while I'm still sipping my first coffee. :)

I can't really fit them anywhere but Killing Joke often has a song or two in my playlists w/ those bands.
I never actually got to see any of them - largely due to the fact that I got into that stuff a bit late and I was living so far from any place where they could have played.

But these bands are still some of my favorites. That and bands on the electro side like Front 242, Front Line Assembly, Skinny Puppy, Die Form and their dark electro industrial offspring...

Great topic I must add! ;)

Heh - I totally forgot about the Music Map!  HERE is the result when you put Bauhaus in.

Killing Joke is the closest match.  There's definitely a few others I've never heard of, so I might need to do a bit of investigation!

(Good thing I didn't make the topic title "Hay Rain!" ya? ;-)

There's very few I don't know - if any, actually. :)

There's many I wouldn't have necessarily thought of, but which are indeed often on similar playlists of mine - Fields of the Nephilim, Black Tape for a Blue Girl (I thought no one else knew that band, lol) Einstürzende, Clan of Xymox, Zeromancer, Switchblade Symphony, etc...
Another band that shows up close to Bauhaus is Christian Death, I absolutely love their first couple of albums w/ Rozz. The whole death rock scene, and bands like the Misfits...

A couple of ones I have in my current playlist right now that I don't remember noticing there -

Sieben
Seraphim Shock
Qntal
Nosferatu
Lacrimosa
Kirlian Kamera
Visage
Faith and the Muse
Abney Park (fellow Sonar users, IIRC)
Neon Judgement

And too many other to list.
Many of these only have one or two songs I dig, but I couldn't be w/o those.

Yeah!  NOW we're talking.  I've got to take off for a little while but, when I return, I'm going to go through that list and see how many I'm missing - this should be fun!  Thanks!

(Too many others to list?  You just HAD to say that didn't you?  Now I'm definitely curious!)

On a couple slightly different tangents, how about Machines of Loving Grace or Camoflage?

Machine of Loving Grace, yes - they had a song on the The Crow Soundtrack, so that would have been impossible for me not to know them. :P

You got me on Camoflage though - I don't think I know them. I'll have to check them out.
You know, one of the coolest thing which happened recently is that nullsoft finally ported Winamp to Mac, so I can either access my old playlists or at least stream music directly from HDs and DVDs w/o having to import them (like iTunes tries to do by default).

I'll see if I can find a couple more after the session. :)

Of course, the "correct" spelling is Camouflage...  HERE is one of their most popular songs.

HERE is another.
