Same here J...my sincere condolences. I'd take her to the Vet too. The nerve thing will pass once they give her a relaxing shot. You're quite a man to even consider doing it yourself. I really couldn't do that. I'd be too afraid to mess up or sit there and look at the after-effects...it's just not the way to do it in my opinion. Too many things can happen that could really make this nastier than it needs to be.

My sympathies.  It's always tough to lose a friend or a member of the family.  I'd go with the vet.

+1 for either some kind of tranquilizers and taking her to the vet, or trying to get a vet to make a home visit.

It's not that there's anything morally wrong with the gun method, it's just that I can't help feeling that's not how you want to see her go.

Are there any sleeping pills in the house? Might be worth trying a few of those to get her off to sleep before taking her to the vet.

Good luck with whichever way you decide, and my sincere condolences.

Explain to the vet that you want her completely relaxed and to feel nothing ... and specifically ask that they give her IV valium first.

My condolences.

My condolences Julian.  I like the idea of asking the vet to make a house call. Not sure I would like having the memory of me putting her away myself.

Sorry to hear that Julien, it's always a heartbreaking time. Whenever we've needed this to be done, the vet has always come to the house. It's less stressful for the animal that way.

Please, don't even consider doing it yourself.

My condolences, Julien. :(

I've had to take one of our cats to the vet last year. The doctor allowed me to be there w/ her so I could caress her tiny little head as she fell asleep and then passed away.

He gave 2 injections - one to relax her, and then one to put her down.

Not a pleasant experience, but it sure beats having to put her down myself.
