  • A Dynamic Duo? Sonar X1 and Studio One 2.0

Studio One seems to be a lot of artists favorite DAW nowadays along with FL Studio. If I add this to my arsenal, will it increase my workflow and perhaps even get me to use it as my main DAW? What are some pros and cons of Studio One? Is it really easier to learn and use than X1? Why haven't X1'rs abandon ship and sail with Studio One? Anyone using Studio One alongside X1? Would this pairing, make for a great Dynamic Duo? Anyone considering using Studio One over X1? And if so, what are your reasons?

Why haven't X1'rs abandon ship and sail with Studio One?
That's exactly what I did. I just never posted the typical 'I'm gone, X1 sucks' goodbye thread, mainly because I don't believe it sucks. I think it has compatibility and stability problems, but no, it doesn't suck. And I'm still waiting to see what happens with the next patch, or what kind of deal I'm offered for the next upgrade. At that point I'll see how they approach the problems X1 has had up till this point and see how they claim to have addressed them at the time of the next upgrade.

You can only be told your computer is a piece of crap so long before you get to the point of troubleshooting where you try the demo of something else. And low and behold, when that something else works near flawlessly, you start asking yourself, why am I torturing myself with this other software that just doesn't seem to play nice with me? I'm not even going to blame it on Sonar, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and say it could be some unresolvable anomaly on my pc. Unfortunately for Cakewalk, the solution ended up being that I move on rather than dump out another 3 grand on another pc and audio interface in hopes their software may work with it.

I still have projects I'm finishing in X1, and I still like opening up my old completed projects and tinkering with the mixes from time to time, but anything new I'm working on will be S1.

At some point I had to stop worrying about crashes and workarounds and actually make some music ... so that's what I did.

Now that I'm not tied to my Tascam FW-1884 for audio* (it's just a control surface now. My RME Fireface UFX is my audio interface) I would love to spend 3 or 4 highly complex projects each in S1/2 and the otheReaper DAW too. I own the current versions of both.

However, unlike BUb, nothing is driving me there as everything I need X1 to do works.

*FYI, the other DAWs did not support the FW-1884 as an audio device very well if not at all.

This is the only Dynamic Duo that I'm aware of…

"What are some pros and cons of Studio One??" "... a lot of artists favorite DAW nowadays along with FL Studio..."

Are you serious? You write as if you didn't know this the SONAR forum.
That's somewhat synthetic...
I'm sure Studio One is quite a good DAW, but still your post seems quite odd to me to put it mildly.

can any studio oners tell me what the benifts are?
is there more contorls, like hows the autosnap?
or is there a vocal,like v vocal?
and how are their plug ins compared to things like the vocal strip 64.perccusion strip 64?

just by watching a few videos i didnt really see the advantages, although some claim better stability, thats not really an issue with me.but that aside,
what is better?

just honest questions,no trolling from here.

thanks

You can download a demo and try it out. I did last week (when Sonar peed me off by crashing once too often) but the evening I spent playing with it just showed me that I like working with Sonar.
I think Sonar got wind of the demo and decided to stop messing me about as it hasn't crashed since. Maybe I've found the cure....I could be famous .

Grum.

Here's a list on their web site (Click Here) there's more out there if you look. Some well know, some not so well known. Just like Cakewalk, FL, Reaper, and every other DAW out there.

Well, for me, the only thing desired by Studio One is the ARA Melodyne thingy. That would be awesome. But there's no way I'll move to Studio One at all. To me, Sonar is 100% stable. IF I have a crash it is usually just a VST screwing up or me being stupid so I can't blame Sonar for that. FL Studio - well, it's a different beast. I like it a lot but I have no use for it.

Not saying that eihter the DAWs mentioned here are bad - In my honest opinnion, all DAWs are great. I work professionally in Nuendo, I know it inside out but I would never use it if I didn't have to. And I've never even considered any Steinberg DAWs over Sonar in my own business. Not because it's bad - well, Nuendo 5 is still seriously bug fueled - but because I simply don't like working in them. There nothing more to it. Same goes for Studio One, Logic, Reaper, Pro Tools. Some functions would be cool to see in Sonar, like ARA or Nuendo's fantastic Keyboard Shortcut function, but I don't feel that Sonar restricts me in any way so why change

BTW, I use Live as well and combined with Sonar, I already have a dynamic duo
