After using Reaper for 3 years I bought S1 and X1 both last year. $600 combined dollars later S1 is the clear winner. The only reason X1 is still installed on my computer is to satisfy some strange buyers guilt that I have. It's a shame actually,  if X1 were simply even slightly stable I'd use it daily.

I respect Bubs decision. If I had issues I probably would look around. But I don't-S  it's been said a million times-I gues your workflow\process\how you do stuff has a lot to do with the issues some have.
I did buy the Studio one "no brainer" deal for $20 a while back. Like reaper, for me it was , well not for me.

@Bub-Really liked your original Avitar better :-)

I've pretty much moved to S1 V2 because for what I do it's just better. However Sonar X1 has some clear advantages when it comes to MCU Control Surface support. S1 has horrible support for the MCU Pro. Sonar X1 has excellent support for the MCU.

S1's audio quantize kicks Sonars audio snap to the curb and then makes it wimper and cower for twenty or thirty minutes.  The mastering section is something Sonar should adopt as well.  But ol X1d is a pretty good ol gal.  Yea, she's a tough ol hide but she gets up ever mornin, get's behind the mule and plows.

I use Studio One with Sonar 8.5.3, both are great DAWs in my opinion, great tools from both.

Only the bakers seem to fear people owning more than one DAW and talking about it. There's nothing wrong with it and it's no threat to the coffers. Studio One is solid and you can learn it in a few days without frustration.

I use S1 v2 for all my pitch correction/manipulation - the ARA integration with Melodyne (Editor in my case) is great.  I can't see myself ever using it again as a plugin.

As fas as S1 being intutive... it's been a mixed bag for me.   I found S1's audio quantize/Bend markers much easier to grasp than AudioSnap, even though I've used AudioSnap longer.   But other basics like getting a time selection to loop were fairly unintuitive for me, so I had to break out the manual... and still did not locate the topic all that easily.  Or, while S1's browser is easy to use yet more powerful overall than X1's, editing MIDI in S1 is a step backward from X1, for me.    Funny how these things work...

I think both apps have a bright future and I like it like that.   I am so looking forward to seeing what the next releases bring to the table.  Good times.

I own a Presonus 16:4:2 mixer which is also my interface.  When I do live show recordings (recorded onto capture which is their light weight dedicated recording software), I typically mix it down on Studio One Artist which can read the captured session directly, and I am not doing a whole lot of processing.  Sometimes I can mix the tracks down using the Studiolive.

When I am creating and recording music, it is Sonar all the way.  I find the MIDI more intuitive, I've build up a nice collection of synths and sampler over the years, love Perfect Space and the Pantheon, and since getting the the Expanded PC Plugins, find myself using the channel FX bins less and less.  I will often just send all the midi stuff to TTS-1 while working on ideas, and then re-instrument parts and replace guitars and bass with live instruments.  For me it just works.

Cheers

I tried Studio One for about a week but they didn't support my Alphatrack controller at all.  I was interested mainly in the ARA implementation with Melodyne.  I ended up uninstalling the demo and buying Melodyne outright.  The actual program features of S1 didn't make my socks run up and down my legs at all.  I don't compose at the DAW with layered tracks.  Not my thing.  I will agree that their version of Audiosnap was implemented better.

I still think that Reaper 4 is better than SONAR in most ways for non-midi recordists but I mainly use SONAR X1d Expanded.  I'm seriously looking at Pro Tools native because I think it has a definite advantage in name recognition.
