I have Komplete 6 which includes K4 which I upgraded for free....NI sent links to upgrade it to 4.xx

I also have the Indiginous guitar package.  And it works well and sounds OK. However, the strummer straight out of the box, so to speak, will sound stiff and unnatural. I guess you could massage it with various things to make it sound more realistic...envelopes and velocity, among others.

For a non guitarist, I suppose it would work much better than a midi guitar patch.

I used it on one song and really didn't like it. Just about everyone here nailed it right off the bat as sampled. I eventually deleted that track and recorded a real guitar and the difference was like day and night.

I see a lot of new things coming out that work much better w/Kontakt 5. Time-stretching improved greatly, new effects.

You've seen this yourself, or read it in some NI propaganda helpful FAQ? Seriously, I'd love for someone -anyone- to give me an example of what K5 did for them that K4 couldn't do (besides qualify them to buy new NI libraries).

wanna sell your Kontakt 4 bit?

Sorry, I'm one of the luddites who refused to upgrade to K5, so K4 is what I use.

Well, you're the one that most influenced me to get Kontakt so that I could buy into the third party libraries. Personally, I have never had Kontakt [full version] before.

Kontakt reportedly has "new high-quality filters and studio-grade effect algorithms, superior timestretching,
vintage sampling modes and more." [Native Instruments]

I have nothing to compare K5 to, nor do I claim to be an expert about it. However I've looked at a number of
different types of software that encourage users to use Kontakt 5 because it will give them Superior and
capable time stretching ability. Perhaps these different software companies are lying or exaggerating. I just
needed Kontakt to get into EEG and 8Dio products. It was simply a means to an end that had no other
means.

Big Fish audio and 8Dio made statements about the advancement of k5 audio stretching.
Big Fish: "The KLI version of this product comes with the KLI 2.0 update and comes in both Kontakt 4 and Kontakt 5 versions. For those with the full version of Kontakt 5, take advantage of the new high quality and extremely flexible new time stretching algorithm as well as a bunch of new included FX. "
8Dio: "Kontakt 5 has a professional time-stretching feature, which gives notably better results than Kontakt 4 when it comes to host-tempo synchronization"
Again, they all may be lying about any advantages, here, and I would be naive to say otherwise. I'm just a bronze member, after all. Don't take me too seriously. I have no ego to inflaste and maintain. Let the facts stand as the truth, whatever they may be, one way or another.

I doubt if you will ever get something that will sound as good as real guitar, properly mic'ed up and played by a competent player. For a keyboard player they enable you to get something reasonable unless its too exposed.
With the Indiginus products I avoid the strum sequencer and use the "strum maker live" option and record to a midi track and use a bit of tweaking and groove quantitise if required. The strum sequencer is just a step sequencer and has all the limitations of a step sequencer including a mechanical feel.

The Orange Tree products are a lot more versatile with proper chord detection and more articulations. Again I think its best to avoid the strum sequencer and record to a midi track. One thing I have found is you may need to push the chords a few ticks earlier than the strum strokes.

Electric leads are a little easier to fake than rhythm parts IMHO.

If the library needs time stretching that K5 will be better or even essential. so there is no lie in Big Fish or 8Dio's claims. Of the 700GB of Kontakt instruments I own none require time stretching. YMMV. If you want to use phrase based instruments and audio loops, upgrading to K5 is worthwhile.

Kreative, they aren't exaggerating or lying. It's just that the time-stretching improvements are irrelevant to most Kontakt users. GB says above that he has 700GB of Kontakt samples and none of them utilize time stretching. I'm at about half a terabyte myself, and none of my libraries need it either. Nor do any of the libraries that are on my wishlist that I can't afford yet.

What time-stretching does for you is let you take a canned loop such as a drum pattern and stretch or compress it to some tempo other than what it was originally recorded at. Kontakt has always been able to do that, but would introduce artifacts if you stretched it too much, like taking a 120 bpm loop and slowing it down to 60 bpm. The claim is that now you can do that with fewer artifacts.

I understand what you're saying, and it probably has its advantages with the Big Fish Loop libraries, in some cases. The expense of buying Komplete 8 is not likely worth having that advantage for most users, no doubt.
