I once again found my self with a live recording and a lot of background A/C noise. I found this free demo of Soundsoap and gave it a try,, It not only removes the noise, it trashes the sound making that "cell phone" underwater sound. Tried every setting and it just plain don't work. Funny how the majority of the reviews said it did work for LP transfers. One guy said the same as me. Anybody get it to work? .......http://www.bias-inc.com/downloads/freeTrials/

I find most noise reduction plugins fall in the last resort category and even then it is more useful for forensic work than music IMHO. The exception being the lo-fi type dialogue samples often found in dance music. Other than that, they simply don't remove enough noise or remove too much of the sound you actually want to keep. I usually get better results with a noise gate and EQ.

Well it was worth a shot. I face this same thing every time in this venue ( high school auditorium ). It's not just the HVAC it's these stupid Robo Lights they installed. The teacher is into dance. They are certainly fun to play with but usless for local theater groups and LOUD fans. To bad because it's an excellent properly treated room.
I'm just going to have to find a better place to put the choir overheads.
If I made software like that that doesn't work I don't think I'd offer a free demo...:?

It works for certain types of sounds. anything that is narrow in range like the 60hz hum or a smoke detector. It's the white noise type sounds that I have had no luck with because they cover the whole spectrum.

I tried the demo and found it very, very over my head. I did hear that it is probably the only one that might work. I played with it for 4 hours and got nothing accomplished so had to move on. It was like learning how to use a new DAW. 500 page manual etc. much plus $$$$$ I don't get enough work to justify the payout.
