Hi All
Just received an email from our friends at Native Instruments about a piano called The Giant.
http://www.native-instrum...+&utm_medium=email

I of course will not be buying this as:-
1) I have quite a few nice Pianos already
2) It is Kontakt 5 ONLY
3) I'm still sulking with NI!!!!

Dern, it sounds very nice.  And the Klavins that was sampled is truly a wonder.  The price is even ok.  But I'd still have to upgrade to Kontakt 5...which would probably mean just upgrading to Komplete 8...which would mean just going ahead and upgrading to Komplete 8 ultimate...which probably doesn't include "The Giant".  Sigh.

No need to upgrade to Kontakt 5. System requirements : Free Kontakt 5 Player or Kontakt 5

Well, it's almost summer which means that Komplete 9 can't be that far off, right?  It's a reasonable expectation that any Komplete Ultimate will have the works at the time of release.  If I was a K8U owner, I'd even be contacting NI asking where my complementary copy is, in any case.

Well in my experience they normally say very little -  very little that is at all helpful anyway!!

Sounds nice, but I'm done with NI. Those periodic contrived upgrades and planned obsolescence constitute arrogant, if not downright predatory marketing.

Imagine you buy into this, or any other NI library, and discover a bug (oh yes, it happens!). No problem, there's a fix release...but when you download and install it, it won't work because Kontakt 6 is out now and the fix release requires K6 (yes, it's happened before). No problem, just use the free player...but you bought full Kontakt for the control and customization features, and downgrading to a crippled version isn't an attractive workaround. Plus you don't want to have to edit all your existing projects in order to swap samplers. So you grudgingly upgrade to K6 and start the cycle all over again.

yup.... that's why I'm still on Komplete 6 With Kontakt 4.... upgrades became instantly confusing. \\As soon as I bought the K6 collection, I got an email a few weeks later with "free" downloadable upgrades..... these files were so huge.... I never bothered.

I listened to the demos and the sound wasn't right for me. I'm not into uprights even really long ones.

I can understand the resentment for NI. I have had a few of the same kinds of things happen.I got a good deal on an upgrade to K5. The difference is I didn't already have tons of samples.

The upgrade pricing isn't bad at all if you already own an older version of Kontakt. Bit are you saying that none of the older files were compatible with more recent versions? This is nuts. I hope they make a change in that approach. Hopefully this will not be repeated.
