  • Thoughts About Using A Tube Mic And A Tube Preamp/Compressor Together

Just wondering about this as the title says.

Anyone use both together, or does it end up becoming a sonic nightmare - like it could be a new movie 'The Clash of The Tubes' [instead of the Titans].

Or - do you just tame down both gain or output levels to keep things reasonable?

Any thoughts - and/or advice?

Thanks Buds,

Jim

Yup. The entire signal path would have been thermionic tube. Not a transistor in sight or be heard. And that includes the record cutting machine.

... and the stereogram you played it back with.  Full of tubes...

Nothing wrong with using tubes on tubes, whether you are Frank or you.  As Bat says, it don't matter.  With the caveat that better equipment makes it easier.  I'll take good SS over cheap tubes most days and anything starved plate.

Ok, so for now all things Frank Sinatra aside, I'm not gonna run into any sound or weird things unless of course I crank everything up way too much, correct?

Your talking about 2nd harmonics, and doubling them.  Nothing wrong with that, it's the sound of the 40's and 50's 1940's and 50's I should say...ah time.  My suggestion is try solid state and tube, the sound of the 60's and 70's.
