I'm thinking about taking the plunge towards the Orange Tree  Evolution Electric Guitar - Strawberry.

Does anyone have any comments about it from a user perspective, either good or bad?

The Orange Tree Mind control Kontakt add on looks very helpful for adding articulations triggered by Midi controller data.

This entire OT package looks promising with Evolution and Mind Control.

I'm mostly wondering about the rhythm guitar and how authentic it sounds. There are some demos but I haven't heard enough to be certain of what it offers.

Its as good as it gets with software.

For rhythm there are two options. Use the built in strum sequencer, or my prefered method trigger the strums from a keyboard and record on a midi track. This way you get twelve user definable articualtions (ie up stroke, down stroke, mutes, different strum speeds, top "n" strings only, etc.)

Each preset has its own but you can define your own chord vocings. Three alternative voicings are set up to change with the mod wheel position. There is a learning curve but it can sound very good.

Of course you will need an Amp sim too. It's recorded straight from the pickups.

Greg is working on a update - there is a thread on KVR, which should make it better.

Cheaper, less versatile, but more intuitive (to me at least) is Indiginus' Torch Guitar.

+1 to everything Glyn Barnes said, including the mention of Torch, which is an excellent value at fifty bucks.

We're all looking forward to the promised EEG update, which will include built-in amp sims. As noted above, EEG's samples were recorded direct, making an amp sim a requirement.

An alternate approach is samples that have been recorded through a real amplifier. If you're not looking to create detailed guitar-centric masterpieces, but rather just throw in the occasional lick into a pop song or orchestrated movie music, an amped library can save time and simplify the process. For an example, take a look at Lyrical Distortion's Ripper Amped lib, which will set you back a mere 19 bucks. Though limited to a rather generic Mesa Boogie sound, it's usable and cheap. They also have $19 amped (Ampeg, of course) basses that are good for generic rock.

Guys, does Torch work with the free Kontakt player?

Kontakt 4 or 5, actually. K5 has not been the big seller NI had hoped for, so most third-party vendors are holding back and sticking with 3.5 or 4.2.

Yeah, I saw the new EG update is almost ready. I guess I'll jump on it when its finally hatched, and spring for Mind Control along with it. In the meanwhile I made 3 new purchases from 8dio. 8Dio Rhythmic Aura Vol. 1 is awesome [ http://8dio.com/?btp_product=rhythmic-aura-vol-1-acoustic ], and I'm downloading it now with Barbary Solo vocals.

You guys have got to check out this 8dio stuff, its really over the top.

Hopefully, I should be pretty well prepared for EEG with my Komplete 8 Guitar Rig 5 Pro. I'm reaching the outer limits of what more I can or should be buying.
