The EEG update appears to be imminent. Greg posted this on KVR today:

Getting the final things ready to release the update: send out the emails, update the webpage, etc. Basically a bunch of writing.

Sounds like the update is ready for primetime and could be released this week.

If you haven't been following the thread, this will be a free update for current owners of EEG. It will require Kontakt 4.2 or higher, so do not get this update if you're running Kontakt 3.5.

Hopefully, I should be pretty well prepared for EEG with my Komplete 8 Guitar Rig 5 Pro. I'm reaching the outer limits of what more I can or should be buying.

I would say that sets you up pretty well software wise. I prefer Amplitube to Guitar rig, but both are excellent and will give you zillions of options with Strawberry.

What sort of keyboard do you have? There are zones for strumming and chords, I think you would find any thing less than 49 keys a limitation. The mod wheel controls the chord voicings, the Roland type mod lever that springs back when released does not work too well with the Evolution guitars as you want it to stay in position (unless you have three hands ) My work around is to assign one of the sliders on my A800 to this task.

Listen to Greg's demos, which IIRC use Guitar Rig and sound pretty good. But because the updated EEG will now include an amp sim he's said that he'll be using that one for all future demos.

BTW, my method for recording faux guitar leads is to use an outboard synthesizer that has some serviceable guitar patches. This allows for zero-latency monitoring while I record it as MIDI, which is subsequently reassigned to an instance of Kontakt. The only preparation I need is to make sure the pitch bend range matches the synth patch. Having an 88-key controller comes in handy when using libraries with keyswitches for selecting articulations.

I have a 61 note keyboard, and I can already see the need for an 88. I'm going to see if I can find a used controller somewhere, maybe, to save money. [Any suggestions?] I really do need an 88 for some of the software I already have. I have a joystick on my Korg PA 500. I really should have separate pitch and mod wheels. My 61 key keystation has those, but I still lean towards getting an 88 note board.

I have found is most 88 note boards are piano weighted types. I am not a piano player and like a light synth type action. At the moment I have a 61 key Cakewalk A800 and an old 61 key Roland XP10, (stuck on midi channel one).  With keyswitch instruments one keyboard can be transposed to cover the keyswitches and the other covers the range of most things. I am sure the Roland is going to die soon and I am considering replacing it with mini keyboard for keyswitches, which will help as I have limited space. -  here is Jordan Rudess using a mini board for key switching.

I'm the same way, Glyn, and not much into the weighted keys just from experience of never having them. The two keyboard senario is a great idea for me, Glyn. I'll try that route. Thanks for the idea!!!

Maybe even a Korg Nano Kontrol may work.

Interesting idea, Bit, with regard to zero latency monitoring. I could use the guitar patches on my Korg.

Greg sounds like an amazing programmer. I've been following some of his threads past and present. He's really in touch w/his audience and seems to delight in excellence and service.

Greg's among the very best there is. Read through the old posts on his support forum at kvr and you'll see the lengths he'll go to to help out a user. One-man cottage businesses have to be that way, it's their competitive edge over the much bigger players.

Sean Costello (Valhalla), Alexey Vaneev (Voxengo) and Urs Heckmann (U-He) are other practitioners of that philosophy and all prime examples of how small-business customer relations are supposed to work.

I got the notification email this morning - The upgrade has been released. Unfortunatly it will be a couple of weeks before I can try it out.
