This story would be right at home here in NC. The lady from Arkansas was fortunate not to get 2 DUI's for using 2 different vehicles.
Locally....
We had a fairly well to do business man here..... owned a prosperous business. Got a DUI headed to the Shriner club and as a result lost his license. He decided to ride his lawn mower to the club...drunk of course. Got pulled again. Nothing attracts a cop's attention at 2 am like a grown man on a lawnmower riding down the shoulder of the road. Gets another DUI. Not to be deterred by a few DUI's he opts next time to ride his bicycle. Then the next time, a horse. Yup... same cop, same road, same time of night, same results. Another DUI.
Then there is the case of my buddy..... he played drums in a few bands I was in many years back. he started off with a simple DUI. Pulled for speeding, cop saw empty beer cans in the back seat. It went downhill quickly from there. Of course any DUI is an automatic 10 day license suspension. Well, he was 120 miles from home, and he needed to get home or risk loosing his job. So after the weekend, he climbs in his car to head home. Doesn't get 100 yards before he gets pulled coming out of the parking lot (where he left his car) of a closed business next the the apartment complex where he was staying.....at 4 am. Cops saw him, it looked s u s p i c i o u s...... blue, blue, blue..... busted, no driver license.
Over the next 14 years, he never had a license. He got pulled about 2x a year and had a total of 28 driving w/o a license and or DUI events. All the cops knew him, so pulling him over was a guaranteed ticketed charge and arrest. (Looks good at promotion time)
A judge brokered a deal with his lawyer..... spend 12 months in the custody of the NC DOC and come out with a clean record. He agreed. Unfortunately, he didn't know at the time it would require around $10k and a lawyer to get the NC DMV to re-issue a license to him. So he still doesn't have a license.
So he did what all good drunks with no license do in NC..... he bought a 50cc scooter. He decided to visit a friend and they were drinking some Jack Black. Sometime around 1:30am he gets the bright idea to go see a buddy/musician up the road a bit, and the fastest/shortest way there is a fairly major highway..... by this time it's past 2am and there he is buzzing down the shoulder of this interstate at 2am going a blazing 35MPH when..... yep you guessed it... he attracts the attention of a local law enforcement officer with nothing better to do. Pulled over, busted for another DUI, scooter confiscated. It may have also not been very wise of him to respond to the officer's request to blow the DUI meter thing by saying to this fine officer simply trying to do his job.... to "Blow this ... azz#$@e"..... yeah that didn't go well.
Ahhh the stories..... I've never had that experience, needing to discuss things with law enforcement while standing on one foot and leaning back to touch my nose at 2 am on the side of the road.
