Facebook made us forget how to interact and socialize in the real world. Now we only meet outside of our homes because there hasn't been that many updates in the past couple hours so we go out, meet up somewhere, check into Facebook to tell the world where we are because that's easier than inviting people who might not want to come to join in, and talk about nothing because I already know what they had for dinner, how silly their cat is, how much they love their spouse, how big their baby is becoming - mind you, I sent them a Farmville2 request for the babyshower - and that Game of Thrones is pretty dern good... so I watched it too and we sit there agreeing about that.

besides that, Facebook is pretty good

BTW - if your band doesn't have a Facebook fanpage or doesn't update it, I don't dig it. Simplz

I have always assumed that Facebook was a hoax, populated by the same kind of spambots that post as new members to these forums with hyperlinks to Eastern European phishing sites in their signatures. No human being old enough to qualify for a facebook account could possibly have mastered the art of typing and still have so little perspective as to believe that anyone, much less their "friends", would be interested in celebrating their gerbil's birthday.

On the other hand it would be relatively simple to program a web crawler to cut out pieces of blogs and photos from the internet and randomly paste them onto virtual walls in order to convince potential advertisers that a billion self absorbed idiots are subscribed to the "service."

Well done, well said, and to the exact point.

Don't know. Facebook is my homepage, the first thing I check when drinking my morning coffee. Like the internet, Facebook is pretty much what you make it.

My newsfeed usually consists of interesting news articles posted by friends, developer news and a couple of mandatory funny animal videos.

I don't surround myself w/ dumb people in real life, and I use Facebook just the same way. I've been using FB since 2007 and I still haven't reached 100 friends, because I don't see the point in adding people just for the sake of it. If they make it on my friend list, they most likely have something interesting to tell me.

Obviously, if you decide to use FB to network w/ people who like to post pictures of their plate and enlightening statuses like "Good morning to all, I'm off to Starbucks", that's what you'll get.

But mine always contain a pretty substantial chunk of interesting info and links.
