Define 'new album'?

Doing some reading about it, it seems that the claim of '12 previously unreleased tracks' is somewhat spurious - 11 of them are alternative versions of tracks already released, plus one new track, seemingly a studio jam with sax player Lonnie Youngblood.

Early verdict - yet more barrel-scraping.

The Maillard Reaction

There are a handful of songs where Jimi's lyrics are speaking of an other place. Those are some of my favorites.

I've never heard Somewhere before... it seems like one of those songs I'm thinking about.

Thanks for the link.

well, 'new album', would be any album released that had not been released before.

Well, yeah..you could rearrange the tracklisting on Electric Ladyland and call it a 'new album'. There have been 9 or 10 posthumous albums in the last 42 years, surely it's time to stop?

what makes you think these are previously released songs?

Virtual Jimi? The "heirs would love that!! I think Jimi would have come back from the grave to stop the release of Cry of Love if he could have. It was a good album but he was a stickler about the production. I really think if his wishes were respected, his albums would haved ended when he died... but money.

It is really hard to believe they have an album of new material to release. I think that Frank's family coud release new live FZ albums for a long time but they saved "good" Jimi material for 40 years... I doubt it. They must have found something or acquired something that someone else had.

I may have to rethink that new album of Gregorian chants featuring never before released tracks by Pope Stephen "Wonder" II.

Is the estate still managed by the Hendrix family? I thought they were doing great when they took over in the mid 90s and gave us proper versions of material that had been butchered by Douglas.

Then they started releasing bootlegs and demos and alt. versions and jams... That's more like pillaging to me, as big a fan as I am ,and even if I do suffer from that morbid curiosity and always want to hear every last bit...
