Horse is good. I used to make this killer spaghetti sauce with ground horse from the local supermarket. It was sold alongside the ground beef etc. Very lean. I've since switched supermarket which doesn't carry it.

People panic about the strangest things... I'd worry more about the other unknowns John mentions. Like what might be in a hotdog.

Horse is not a bad meat really. I do though, understand the reaction in finding what you think you are eating is not truly what you thought.

I don't really understand all this fuss over a horse.

Some oriental cuisine includes such fine delicacies as dog and cat meat.

Do you really know what's in your restaurant dinner tonight?

Do you really know where your pet is tonight?

If there's one such restaurant in your neighborhood... keep 'em inside!

I'm not trying to offend here, but there have been cases of missing pets near certain enterprises.

Horse meat "per se" is not bad! It's actually very tasty!
It's because horses are commonly treated with antibiotics that are great for the horse bit server and dangerous poison and a health issue for any human.
The antibiotics stays in horse forever and also get into their meat when butchered. The antibiotics treated meat is very bad for any humans to eat and some cases have lead to death. 
 Arsenic and quicksilver are deadly too that are sometimes find in inland fisheries fish.
 

Now you know why.

Horse meat doesn't worry me at all.  We used to cook tons of it when I was in the Army Catering Corps.
 
What worries me is that we don't know anything about where it came from.  Was it from healthy or diseased animals?  Was it slaughtered hygienically?  Does it ave any vet drugs in it?  That's all.
 
As for hot dogs, my wife says they're lips and a'holes..
