Well, maybe so, I know that a few black canadian students up here did see that particular photo on that site and saw it for what it was...a historical time piece of what it was like back in the 1920's in a lot of areas...nothing more, nothing less.

My own upbringing was from a German background..having had to deal with our collective past made me a little more sensitive to what we are all confronting when we see images like this...I do not condone what is displayed but I do not want to shut it from my memory either...for it is through that imagery that we can see what needs confronting...even today.

there are 3 things i think should not be discussed in the forum and i believe all 3 are in the TOS for good reasons.
religion,polotics and rasicim.

This was not a racist post. It was about anti-racism. You think we cannot talk about anti-racism in the coffee house?

i never said it was.
and as you can clearly see the qoute you have posted that i wrote.
i said i believe there are 3 things that are in the TOS for good reason.
Religion,Politics and Rasicim.

now how you have come to the conclusion or somehow twisted what i have written to somehow suggest
i feel this this is a racist, thread, post, topic, exc. is very concerning.
those are also very strong and demeaning accusations you are making.

not only am i offended,im sickened.

im not about to tell anyone what they cant or cant talk about in the coffee house.
i was merely stating my opinion just like you have yours/with the exception my opinions didnt point any fingers at individuals.

For the sake of accuracy Sharke didn't start a thread against the TOS here, some attempted to turn it into one.

It was merely a picture from a general interest photo archive that I would have understood that he thought was bizarre enough to flag up here.  It was certainly that.

Any interpretations of it being anything else came after that.

This one could be seen as more disturbing.  Actually it probably is.

The archive its self is fascinating These WW2 British propaganda posters in Farsi caught my eye http://www.retronaut.com/2012/04/iranian-the-downfall-of-the-dictators-is-assured-posters-1939-1945/

And there is always Miss Sausage Queen - seems Lady Ga Ga is not so cutting edge after all.

Strange........? I'd say..........sad.........de-meaning............ inflammatory...........uncalled for...........

Thank God things are changing but in this world there will always be hatred and people willing to act on it.

Remember the democrat senator from West Virginia who was a klan leader... can't remember his name. He was given a bit of a pass because of his age... and this picture is 1929. Thangs have changed a LOT since 1929 (for most people).

Unfortunately, today, racism is on ALL sides of the color divide.

The Honorable Senator Robert Byrd is the guy you were trying to remember. Look him up on Wikipedia,,,, he's quite a piece of work.
