Good day luminaries.... Yes...I still use the flawless Opcode 8PostSe midi interface. I bought the XP Direct Music driver from Evert at this link some years ago: http://8portse.earthvegaconnection.com/index.html Nice guy and very helpful. He stated in an older email to me that it works fine with Win 7 32 bit which I'm OK with. (The 64 bit is available from him now for those remotely interested) So...is there anyone left using this interface that may have made the DAW leap to Win 7 and is using this Win XP driver without issues? Any comments welcome before I proceed. I know this a shot from the hip so thanks in advance. (I think Scott Garrigus still has one in this closet...)

Forum won't let me edit original post (error 500 server error). I have an off topic question about Win7 Premium for the DAW upgrade. Searching the internet I notice Win7 Premium prices are all over the map even some below 100$? Is there something different/suspicious about the comparatively very cheap prices that I'm missing? At Fry's it's 199.00 so thought I would get some feedback on this. Thanks again...(sorry about this format of all running together).

Windows 7 Home Premium is available in three basic flavors.

A full installation licensed to be used on a new computer without any previous versions licensed to that machine.

An upgrade version licensed to be installed on a machine on which a previous version of windows XP or Vista

An "OEM" version licensed to be installed on a new machine by a computer assembler, and not licensed to be moved to another machine after it is installed.

The versions all run the same, and all can be installed as a "clean install" if there is not an actual copy of a previous windows resident on the machine. Google clean install windows 7 upgrade. So for practical purposes they will all work.

The price difference usually reflects the difference in the version. Upgrade and OEM versions are cheaper, and I have seen OEM versions from reputable dealers lately for around 100.00, upgrades for about 120.00, the full version runs about 200.00. Somewhat lower prices may be available as various distributors try to clear their inventory, on sales or bundles etc. Prices much lower than those may be available from private parties on ebay etc. but you run the risk that they have already used the installation key etc. NewEgg.com has all the choices and is a reputable dealer. You can check their prices for a rough estimate.

The professional version is substantially more expensive and for Sonar at least does not offer a major advantage. The ultimate version is more than almost anyone needs unless they are in a server environment.

I have a Studio 128 I'm not using anymore doe to the driver issue and its limitations. With XP and now Win7, I switched to a MOTU micro lite which opened up a whole new world in channel routing.

Slartabartfast.... That was above and beyond the call of duty. I want to do a clean install rather than an upgrade. The Delta44 has Win7 drivers so no worries there. Soens.. the Midiquest 8Port is a need for me as I have (5) midi rack modules. It's still a great unit as archaic as it is now. Thank you both for the comments....
