  • Presonus audiobox 22 vsl doesn't start on start-up

This not only has my feeble mind perplexed but Presonus support also.
After booting up it doesn't power up unless I unplug and replug it (USB powered and no power switch).
If I plug it into one of the external hard drive ports I use I get the same results.
What I find more baffling is that it starts up fine if I have my Axiom 61 controller plugged in and power switch turned to the on position.
I've poked around in the bios but can't seem to find a fix. The Intel usb2.0 ehci controller is enabled, Legacy usb support is set to auto, legacy usb3.0 support is set to enabled, Intel XHCI is set to Smart Auto and EHCI Hand-off is set to disabled.
I jacked around with those settings a while back but don't remember what I tried (quit before I screwed anything up).
I feel it is something to do with the bios though because when I made a change a few times and applied the changes the presonus immediately powered up but not on the next boot or any time after.
The motherboard is an Asus P8Z77-V LK and my other specs are in my sig.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks very much,
Randy

For one thing, the Audiobox VSL series interfaces are not fully compatible with USB 3. You can try disabling USB 3 support in your BIOS and see if that helps. I've found the Audiobox really likes to be the only USB device on the bus it is plugged into. There are free utilities that will let you see what devices are attached to what USB busses.

Finally, have to downloaded the latest driver release? They just released a new driver a few weeks ago that is supposed to help.

Thanks Dan,
Yessir, I installed the new driver (2.18.0.5534) on 5-22-14.
Unfortunately disabling USB3 didn't help and I tried having no usb plugged in except the Presonus...nothing unless the keyboard is plugged in and turned on.
Oh well, thanks again for trying sir.

Weirdest thing I've ever heard. It's as if the bus is powered down and cannot detect the Audiobox when it is plugged in alone. I wonder if you may have a power-saving "feature" enabled in your BIOS for the USB bus?

Here's something even weirder Dan...when I was unplugging things yesterday I must have left the keyboard unplugged because after I plugged it back in this morning I kept getting "device not recognized" errors.
After jacking around with it for a while I finally plugged it into the presonus via midi cable...after 3 tests, all is well now even with the Axiom keyboard not turned on while booting up!
Anyway, thanks again sir for all your efforts, it's what got me unplugging and re-plugging and discovering a fix.

I have a different Presonus - Audiovox USB. My new rig only has USB 3 ports and man did I get pops and clicks at first. It was always recognized but didn't work well. Then I tried a different USB post - one that the uses Intel drivers. Problem solved. And I also have an Akai Pro  88 Keyboard in another port, and my mouse / PC keyboard etc.

Glad its working for you!

I have a friend that just bought one of these.  He's not very computer literate and its working fine on his older HP desktop.  Sadly I couldn't talk him into Sonar, he's using the Studio One that comes with the 22VSL.
