For grins I sent an inquiry to Cakewalks Customer Service to see if they can shed any light on what the fastest DL speed could be when bringing down a single file from their server. It would be interesting to know even though it is not a show stopper.

Thanks again guys,
Regards,
Rick

There are many factors that can affect download speeds.  In addition to your ISP link, and the server you are downloading from, there is the internet speed of the server's connection to the internet,  there can be roadblocks within the internet "cloud" that can slow down downloading.   Just remember whatever download speed you have is ONLY between your ISP and you, nothing else.

I have a fast 40 Mb/sec (incoming) cable link.  I can download very fast from some sites, slow all the time on others and some that are fast sometimes and slow other times.   Sometimes on Youtube, I get a smooth stream, other times I get buffering/dropouts.

Thanks for that info fireberd!

FYI:
I received a reply from Cakewalk with a set of different download links to try and the result was the same limited DL speed using Firefox 31.

By chance I tried a spare laptop that is not used much and still has FireFox 25.1 installed. Surprise, the single file came down at 3.4MB/s vs. 1.2MB/s using FireFox 31. My guess is something got broke in the newer versions of FireFox.

Anyway, I now have a couple of different options by using FDM or using the older version of FireFox on the other Laptop. What started out as an issue has become a win-win. I learned some things and have resolutions to my issue.

Again, Thanks to everyone that replied!

Kind regards,
Rick
