He is really hitting on Apple and especially the iMac and Macbook. It is a pretty scathing review about the increasing lack of user tweaking or repair of the hardware. He, at one place, compares the current state of the Mac to a toaster or dishwasher that, if it breaks you just return it. If it does not do what you want, you return it.
 
He is not happy. I get the idea that he liked yesteryear's Mac but does not care for the direction they are taking with the new machines
 
The article is a follow-up to a feature article in the same issue about tweaking a PC, in particular one running Windows 7 and the "Fade Out" article is couched in terms of the possibility of an article on tweaking a Mac... which, according to him is becoming or has become near impossible.

Hmmm so I guess he's saying....

MAC, what is it good for, absolutely nothing! 

Much like ProTools LE, MP (or express) pfftttt!!! Butt the thing is, MAC Pro and ProTools HD along with all the additional packs is probably a great DAW but the cost for it is way out there man. I guess that's why a lot of MAC users lean to Logic because it has more bang for the buck. Let's face it, most musicians can't afford PTHD. 

IMO Windows is the clear choice and it's interesting that DP has developed a Windows version. I guess Motu sees the great potential and wants a slice of that pie. Be interesting to see how that pans out. 


Meanwhile back at the Bakehouse and general headquarters of the CH occupied by geniuses (insanity)... Ah yes, enjoying this cozy atmosphere, the white decor, the uncontrollable laughing that resonates across the threads, like basket weavers enjoying the fine art and.... OK, time for my medication. 

I wonder if anyone here can tell us if the black chrome bodies make better sounding Mikes mics?

 
The reviewer said that it is the same body as the V6 but that this mic is, in his opinion, an all around mic. He tried it on a variety of sources and against several other mics including the Shure KSM44 which he said was clearer and mo betta but that the MXL was surprisingly good and the biggest surprise (to the reviewer) was surprised that he liked it best when he tried it as drum overheads. Said that was unusual for a LD condenser, said he left them up for frum tracking for about 3 weeks. He said the black chrome looks great.

Yep, just like a toaster indeed. If it breaks up, you send it back. That was pretty much the point w/ Mac all along. That is exactly why I like mine so much. 


However, if he prefers , he can always build a PC. If it breaks, he'll have the option to take it apart send the individual pieces back individually.
