Been exploring X2 and have never messed with it.
I know nothing about it.
 
Curious to see results from those that might.
 
 

I've never looked into it but from reading the description it just appears to be a way to put an embedded streaming music player on your website. There are doubtless many others to choose from, and I suspect there are better ones out there if you look. It's kind of like the photo gallery creator that comes with Adobe Lightroom: a quick and easy way to embed a slideshow gallery without too much technical fuss, but then again if you're capable of building your own website then installing another 3rd party option shouldn't pose too much of a problem for you, and you quickly realize that there are better freeware options out there if you do a search for them.

I think it is silly bloat ware that Cakewalk got cheap and easy and shoved into X to make the smorgas board seem like more mediocrity for the money.


It's like the *ice cream* bar at Golden Corral. I'd never eat that stuff... and after a while I don't even want to know it's there.



In all seriousness... I have interim steps between SONAR and publishing that I consider vital.

1) listening to the file before posting... that's a good one.
2) tagging the file with all the pertinent info... that's important to me.
3) copying a master copy to archive etc.
4) choose where I wish to upload.

It's been around for several years. I have it in my SONAR Home Studio 6 which I bought in 2006 or so.
Never used it.

I've never used Publisher, but then again, I do my music for my own pleasure and have no need of such services.

Box.net suites me fine, although, I have to say ... their embedded MP3 player does something to the mixes. They sound better if you download them and play them in your own player.

IMO the best sound quality for hosting mixes online is YouTube, believe it or not. Use Windows Movie Maker to create a 1080p video containing your mix, and you can bung a video or slide show or static photo to accompany it. YouTube hosts your music at a decent bitrate, seems to have a much better sounding compression algorithm, and you're going to be exposed to a far larger audience. What's not to like? Oh and it's a doddle to embed YouTube videos into your website as well. 

For anyone who's interested in the bitrates used by Soundcloud versus YouTube, I've read in a number of places that Soundcloud's playback is at 128kbps. YouTube, on the other hand, is 196kbps as long as you watch the video at 720p or higher.

YouTube's compression is AAC, which is significantly better than MP3 at the same bitrate. Soundcloud is, as far as I know, MP3...at a lower bitrate. So you can understand why YouTube sounds so much better.

I thought maybe since it was in Sonar that somebody had used it. I was curious about it and how well it worked...not really
a need just questioned about a feature/function.
 
Greg it's weird how many versions I've had and never paid it any mind. Guess my luck ran out lol.
