This is a really old instrumental track I recorded - must be over ten years ago now - originally because I wanted some backing music to a video I had shot and I had this piano riff in my head I wanted to develop. There a lot of issues with this track, firstly it doesn't really develop instrumentally or go anywhere (possibly down to my limited piano chops) and there are multiple timing issues. The drum track (and that pad) also tends to be loved and loathed in equal measure from feedback I have had in the past but I'd be interested to know what you folk think. I am hoping to do an updated version but sadly my original cakewalk project file is corrupted and is lost for all time so I will have to re-record from scratch (and I really do quite like the sound I managed to get on the guitar solo at the end - assuming you manage to make it all the way to the end). Anyway enough rattle from me - here it is:

Your piano / keyboard skills are painfully rudimentary. Just jabbing at the keys is not playing. If I were you, I would take a few years to really learn to play an instrument before posting stuff. Otherwise, what's the point? What I heard was just irritating even on a beginner level.

And yes, I listened to the track before making this comment. Also know that I am a piano player (50+ years, no beginner). What I heard was a pleasant piece that might not be a finalist in the Van Cliburn competition but far from "irritating". The piano actually fit the piece well.

I agree it needs a major overhaul but nice to know you think it might be worth the effort. Guess I'll just need to get to work on my 'painfully rudimentary' technique and see what I can do with it. 😂

Hi Andy. I think it sounds pretty good the way you have it. My only suggestions would be that you place the drums more in the center, at least the kick and the snare. They sound like they're coming out of my left speaker quite a bit more than the right. The piano might benefit more from being centered in the mix too. You've got the tonal spectrum down really well. I wouldn't change the EQ on anything. You nailed it.

Enjoyed hearing this, and I like how you mixed this honestly. I could hear everything and I wish more people would play and mix music in this way. I have a slow sense of sound sometimes and it's nice to hear a stereo field on a  mix where one instrument is either on the right or left or somewhere in the mix rather than filling everything up with a blast of things. 
 
Listen to Van Halen's 1984 and think of their song Panama, whoever mixed that one picked their points and made it express it perfectly. 
 
My point being, I like hearing this and enjoyed hearing the song very much! It doesn't matter how you express your music, all that matters is that you take the time to express them in whatever way you know how.

Enjoyed hearing this very much, it was a nice change from the normal PUT IT ON ALL SPEAKERS AND BLAIR WHATEVER type of stuff going on now days.

Considering you recorded this song 7 years ago and you used it for a video sound track speaks volumes.
I thought it sounded very good for your intended use.The recording itself was very clear and I could hear every detail .
 
The vibe of the song itself was lighthearted and the music itself was a pleasant listen ...
