This is extremely interesting music! It's quite a composition.
 
The first minute, I was waiting for the vocals. Bt then I got the kind of Rnb prog thing you were doing, so that's cool!
 
1:54 area, that main riff has a low d that's pretty flat, as is the low e. Might be worth a re-do or some handy tuning correction.
 
I really like how you are doing your own thing and are not worried about fitting into a genre. I can hear everything from Talking Heads to Joe Satriani in there. Also, I'd drop Brian Auger's Oblivion Express! Nice mix.
 
I think your biggest issue might be drum programming - sometimes it feels like the drummer is doing his own thing and it's not always supporting the music. You might redo some fills to make it stylistically fit with where the rest of the instruments are going. For example, in the first thirty seconds of the tune, I think the drums support things perfectly. Around :30 and maybe up to :45, the drummer goes off the stylistic rails, in my opinion. Just my .02 drachmas.

I love stuff like this, it's got an early Time and a Word-era Yes thing happening. You just need Jon Anderson to do some weird vocals and you're done!  Seriously though, it sounds good to me. The first synth (or maybe guitar) break sounds kind of far away and there are some changes here and there that could use some tightening but I dig it!

nice playing, did you do the guitars yourself? If you did, I am enjoyed by your ability.
 
at 1:17 the whirring sound, guitar slides?  is a little robust
 
that little lick at 2:30 is cool, almost dick dale like when the reverb kicks in.
 
on my computer speakers the entire mix is a little toppy.  the guitars are way up front, but I like a little more low end, that's just me.
 
with that being said, I am amazed at the ability to play a piece with so many changes in it, I can't fathom how people can do that, I would never be able to keep up.

For the record I played the guitar and bass parts and programmed the drums (using some loops as well.)
 
You've all made great points and I'm going to go over it again and clean up some of the areas you've all suggested. It's nice that another set of ears can point out potential problems that, over the course of listening and re-listening ad nauseam, become normalized. Thanks again!

To me, I hear eclectic in this, like Split Enz, but mixed in with something else. I think it sounds pretty good, but I have to agree with Tom that the drummer sounds like he spazzed out here and there. Most of them do anyway, but it's out job to keep them on point ;)
