Sure there will be. Some have a great time with them. That's cool by me for folks to do what they enjoy.

I think having a log-in for those that have purchased the software has many benefits.

It would be much easier for Andrew to flush trolls and the troublemakers that don't own the software....they'd all be in one place.

It would make it better for the people that like to play with trolls and troublemakers that haven't purchased the software as they'd pretty much "rounded up". ( I know, that was just funny to me)

I would also like to see a "forum MUD-room" in the "registered member forums" where those that have fun hammering could take it to the "mud room" and those that liked to rubber-neck or join in would have an easy way to find them.

So...it helps Cake and it helps members....it also shows those that just become a member to "rub" and troll...that Cake has a good plan for them and a good one for its members.

Paul some folks enjoy playing with trolls. I don't care and think they should be able to.. at least it's their choice. People gravitate to their enjoyments and if that's one...so be it.
I know you agree that we have long-time members that do- so...it'll never stop.

this is a really good post,
its got a little bit of everything in it and hopefully andrew will read these posts, exspecially this one spacey.
your a nobel guy.
made me understand a few things myself,im guilty of feeding those trolls as well.
i dont think i find as much entertainment in it as i feel im trying to set things straight for a possible new user who would read something like that and think"wow,i guess cakewalk sucs" i dont want someone thinking thats true.
no if they a legitimate grip then by all means there is a way to convey your thoughts in a respectful manner, even when you are upset.

but you know as well as i,there arent upset users, these are trolls.
ive become very defensive now to almost any post i read that resembles godparticles work.

now im not sure and i do not want to be saying something im not sure about but it is possible and i believe
he's got like 5 accounts.
and the worst thing about it...hes answering himself in these posts to detrimental questions.(even praising his own posts)
one of his posts was something along the lines of,"so i really cant do this? and then he answers himself in another account saying"No it definetly cant.

like i said it would be wrong for me to make such accusations and at first i thought i was just paranoid.
but he even mis-spells the same words.

i was one of the first people to mention only giving accounts out to registered users.
bapu replied something back to me like"you dont need to have your email the same as your account".
and i said yes but if asked by a mod you would need to have it present.
but it seems as this thread is rolling on you and the others have put your heads together and fin tuned some details and come up with new ideas.

i think the problem lays with what about new users looking for help with demo?
i think it was bapu again(not sure) who said, give them their own special forum.great idea right there.

i would be happy to spend as much time helping people in another part of the forum as i would the registered users forum.
there are some really good ideas flowing around here.

I agree with you that slobfarticle has multiple accounts. Some may say it's just being paranoid, but everyone writes in a recognizable "voice" that it's very hard to disguise. I believe there is software available that will compare one piece of text and another and evaluate the probability of both authors being the same - it has a lot to do with repeated use of certain phrases, frequency of words and punctuation style. However sometimes you can spot it a mile off just by reading it. There is a certain flow and rhythm to a person's writing which is unmistakable. And when the writer tries to disguise it by deliberately adopting a different punctuation style and inserting spelling mistakes etc, it comes across as forced and you can spot that too.

Thank you Charlie.

I guess some organizing would help. I sure think it would be worth a try.

I don't know what it takes or what it costs but I do think that if one considers how long
it's been like it is we can't say they spend to much time and money having a good forum.

The worst part IMO is that I feel many of our ideas and requests only go so far. Even if there
are good ones and even if we all agreed I don't think we're part of the equation.
Now before you or anybody confronts me on that...I base it on many years of people asking
for downright solid suggestions for features and corrections to the software and forum and they
weren't addressed.
I don't care to dig up bones but I sure wouldn't have that opinion if they hadn't given it to me...it's not like I just sit around making things up about this LOL. It doesn't mean that much to me. I do
care enough to participate and contribute what I can....but that's for you friends here...not for Cake.
Like I said...they don't need me or my opinions anyway.

I don't see trolls and troublemakers as a real bad thing when I feel like having fun hammering on them. There are days when I feel like an ass and act as one. It's fun. There are some very funny people around here. Then there are days I wish they were confined so I didn't have it distracting me.
Well it is possible to have it both ways....but with Cake I just don't think it's very probable.

We'll obviously never agree on FB so no point in going there, you seem like a nice guy and all, but you seem to be arguing against yourself a little there. You start off by saying FB is a good method of id because of the work that they do to ensure that accounts are legit and proper and then go on to say how easy it is to set up an account with zero personal info just so that you could gain access to places that require FB login.  Ermm..... am I missing something ?

Facebook, like Google, employs some pretty nifty algorithms that we'll probably never fully know about or understand. I suspect that there are a ton of ways that they can detect potential duplicate accounts, multiple accounts created from the same IP in a relatively short space of time being one of them.

Here's a little clue from a Facebook spokesman although it's still a little vague:

“Facebook has always been based on a real name culture. This leads to greater accountability and a safer and more trusted environment for our users. It¹s a violation of our policies to use a fake name or operate multiple accounts. We have a dedicated User Operations team that reviews these reports and takes action as necessary.
We also have technical systems in place to flag and block potential fake accounts based on name and anomalous site activity. One of these technical systems has been displaying a warning to users we believe may be operating multiple accounts, while we are not taking action on these warnings at the moment, we have been notifying users that they may be violating our policies. We are constantly iterating on these systems and developing new ones, to provide an even better experience for the people who use our service.”

First thing to note is that they have a team dedicated to reviewing reports of multiple accounts. Straight away you can see how much better that is than a simple anonymous email login (how many email providers even try to detect multiple accounts?). Second, there are the "technical systems" in place to "flag and block potential fake accounts based on name an anomalous site activity." Sounds complicated, but you can imagine a typical scenario: two different Facebook accounts, both registered from the same IP, who are both liking or posting comments on the same site.

Really? Spacey is one of the first fellows that piqued my interest here. Between his collection of mini amps and his guitar building I find him to be a very interesting poster. He doesn't come upstairs much though so maybe that's why you didn't notice him.

Cheers.

That's all well and good, but the guy has a Marshall Fridge!  How many of you can say that???

That totally counts.

even if we all agreed I don't think we're part of the equation.

I think you're right. Also, the bad economy could be a part of it. Maybe Cake is watching costs and people who could be moderating more have more pressing duties. Maybe some volunteers would be a good idea, I don't know. (I did read post 13 but my mind scrambles stuff around after a while... a very short while.
I hope I haven't offended here. If I have it certainly hasn't been my intention, I tend to be naive. I have a tendency to think everyone is being sincere unless it is really obvious...  I am learning and getting better though thanks to most around here.

Spacey, in your frustrated first X2a project thread I posted a link to a thread where some guy said that buying a new system made X2 run right for him, then I wondered if that might have not set well with you... but honestly, if it wasn't well received I didn't mean any offense... I meant it to help.

So, if I ever come across as offensive, tell me... because unless I am obviously being an a55, I don't know I am being offensive. I am not too big to apologize when I am wrong or if I get upset and pop off. Also, I realize that I don't know anything compared to most of the members here but I am an owner/sucker.. I buy everything Cake offers.

You may wonder why I am here a lot but never post a song. I have been trying to overcome a phobia. Everytime I have tried in the past it has been a disaster but I figure if I stay at it, eventually I will overcome this fear. Isnt that stupid? but there it is...
"Oh no, I've said too much I set it up".
It is supossed to rain for the next three days (up to 2" tonight) so I have no excuse to not at least do some scratch tracks... and it is about time.
