Say for example, you had a car up for auction on Ebay. It's got several bids on it, up to about half what you'd like to get. 36 watchers. 600 page views. There's a few hours to go, but you're going to be out when the auction is due to end.

Hold your nerve, or cut and run?

Hard to say.  Usually bidding gets fairly intense the last few minutes of an auction.  For a car though, no idea what the pattern might be.  IMHO, the last thing you want to do is overpay, and by definition that is very possibly what the person selling the car is hoping for.

I once used a "sniping" program that does the bidding for you if you are away. You can tell it how high to bid. It will automatically bid if another bid comes in over yours. I think you can also time some of those programs.

I'm not trying to tell you what to do man but if you think you might get into trouble you can get a friend bidder involved. It will cost you the listing fee though. I'm not sure if there is another way out of it if the offers are too low.

Things do tend to heat up over the last few minutes of an auction if the item is something a lot of people want especially. You can do a search on similar items and what they sold for by going into sales history. This can give you at least an idea where it might go if you keep it on auction.

 Hope it goes your way!

Sounds like it's not important enough a loss to make sure you're in at the time the auction ends.

On that basis I'd say, hold your nerve...

It's only money, more importantly from my POV it's only your money...

I could end the auction early, but I have a gut feeling it'll work out OK. Similar cars are going for about what I'd like to get, and 36 people watching the auction is encouraging.

I'm only getting slightly nervous because January kicked my **** and I could use the money.
