Hey Craig.

Here's number 6.

It doesn't matter what was actually said it's what we believe you said that's important.

I'd forgotten that one clearly.

jonbouy, ive often been amused by your comments, and even had some mutual agreements.
but this is a little disapointing.

i know you dont care because youve never cared what people have thought of your posts, and that can actualy be a better quaility of yours.
im not going to pretend i know you well either, just that ive respected your  knowlege.

your going out of your way to dis craig.

i dont always agree with craig but i will try and and act like a gentlmen
what you just wrote here was
pretty much a nasty comment, gifted wrapped with a label that says "here you go sir"

Sure.

Some of us though have augmented our software tools with different tools and don't limit ourselves to a single application and are aware that they are not all created equally.  Also some of us have no interest in the software we choose other than they offer us things we like and that they work well and have no vested interest in showing one thing in a good or bad light unless it fulfils or fails in that criteria.

Likewise different manufacturers deal with customers differently to others some bad some good.

Lastly whilst I'd agree that all forums have pretty much the same players with different names it is a top 5 that is certainly designed to overlook some of the reality behind them in order to support an agenda.  Then again you did warn us that it was snarky, so you fulfilled that brief for sure.

I'll give you a real example from one of the great unwashed forum massive that you are mocking though.

One company I've officially reported more than several bugs to, sometimes more than once, yet none has been fixed in subsequent upgrades, thats not even counting the all too numerous ones that are known so I haven't bothered to report because I know for a fact others have reported the same things, yet via another DAWs forum I've casually mentioned a couple of issues that I wasn't sure were actually issues or user error and lo, I've been contacted by support who have worked through issues with me until they were resolved.  3 bugs in total I've reported there in the same time frame every single one has been addressed in the very next release.  I can always elect also to join the public betas that run for a few months every time a major release happens and actively work on get extant bugs fixed that way.

One of those places is this particular forum and one isn't see if you can guess which one is which.  I'd like to be able to offer a little joke about that but sadly that's the actual facts.  So I'm sorry if that comes across as a bit of a downer.  Some folk have enough intelligence to discern differences I'm afraid and therefore don't fit your cosy little insider generalisations.

So your fun chart there might have been posted as light relief but I consider it to be hugely insulting to many of those here that are clearly having serious issues and yet are having trouble being heard among such things as the glibness you've just posted, not as harmful as some of the personal stuff that gets thrown at people because they dare mention can't get the software to do enough of what it is supposed to do I grant you but unhelpful just the same.

Oh, and someone really had to point out to you that an article that you'd written had actually been posted online?

Unbelievable.

Not only that the humour is pretty lame IMO, you want a good belly laugh I'd suggest spending half an hour in the Coffee House.  It might be at your own expense mind you but if you ain't too prissy about that kind of thing I guarantee you'll have yourself a few laughs among some really gifted comedians...

I post only to be sure nothing is edited.

If you think members are not being heard here when they report problems you need to stay around here a lot more and read some threads. I know its not as much fun as being in the CH and it may take some actual work to figure out what the problems are but that is what we do up here. Its not fun, its not glamorous and its not very easy all the time but it is very rewarding.

Here's my favourite post on forum culture currently.

It's actually much sadder than the picture Craigs mild humour has managed to convey.

The subsequent posting here has kind of confirmed it yet again.

Forums everywhere are eating themselves alive.

So score points y'all over what you think my intent has been here.  Unlike the invitation I offered Craig for a response, you guys don't even bother with such niceties, well I just dangled my foot in the pirhana pool so just make up your minds to suit your good selves and feast away.

You watch though the world will still be spinnin' tomorrow just the way it did today.

That's about how important how all this dramatic stuff that happens here is.  Someone just called ME deluded...lol.

Agreed.

It kind of reminds me of this in a way.

Bless your heart, you answered my question, anyway.  Thank you for your swift response.

I agree with you that the world will still be spinning tomorrow, even after Craig's post, too.  I find your reaction to Craig's post a little oversensitive.

There does seem to be a certain paranoia and martyr syndrome prevalent in the forum at the moment.  I am sure it will pass.

I felt Craig's list had a ring of truth to it.  I will certainly be sharing it with students and colleagues, regardless of what DAW they use.  They will either find it funny, or not.  I suspect they won't take it personally, though.

Whatever - I thought those five reasons were pretty funny, I laughed at least

Did I?

Where did that bit happen again?

You guys seem to be better experts than me on what I write so show me.

btw Craigs list has more than a ring of truth about it, it was just thought it was a bit limp not that it wasn't accurate.  I did say that was IMO though.  Given that it was posted 'in the light of the spate of recent threads'  I still think it was untimely and hugely insulting to those that have been trying to point out issues within that recent spate being referred to in the OP.

Again like the other one it's a thread that would have been better off in the appropiate forum and we could all have a chuckle (or not).  Guaranteed anyone else who'd posted that here and it would have been flushed down the U bend into the CH by now.

I'm also confident that if Craig has issue with anything that I've put there as being unfair he's more than capable of putting me straight without the need for all the ladies-in-waiting intervening on his behalf.

And why John has bothered to quote my post there is beyond me, perhaps he's judging people by his own standards because he knows full well that I don't come back and edit my posts after the event, even when some folk would prefer that I did at times.

Given the recent spate of threads, I thought y'all might appreciate a little humor. (By the way, you'll need to click "Continue to page" to skip the opening screen).

The ultimate irony is that Dan Goldstein at Acoustica is the one who pointed out to me that this column had been posted online.

Loved this and thought it was funny. I ended up reading all of your top fives. Good stuff!
