Nothing that has been posted by him lately is nothing but a celebration of this forum and its membership.

definitely celebrate this membership, I even like the people who disagree with me for two reasons: 1) I'm not always right and if I'm not, I want to know about it; and 2) Monty Python's argument clinic is classic, and sometimes it's fun to play. It's not like I take this all that seriously (the Craig's List should have been a clue). And so many people here are just plain smart, cool, and helpful. I've learned a lot by coming to this forum, and several weirdass Sonar problems I had were fixed within minutes by communing with the search box and taking advantage of someone else's expertise.

Once there was a thread in the Ableton forums where the OP savaged me for being way too straight, old, and normal to have any business doing DJing on stage, with a link to me performing. I just sat back and watched the thread, and truly found out the meaning of "I don't care what you say, just spell my name right." Several people who'd never heard of me followed the link and liked what they saw, so by bringing attention to me, more people checked out my music, books, and various other projects. It's a really fun variant on the law of unintended consequences.

The funniest part, though, was how it ended. After the debate about whether I was cool or not, one person said "You know why he's cooler than you? Because he doesn't give a f*ck what you think." Thus ended the thread.

That wasn't quite true; I do want to give people what they want. For example if someone's going to spend $30 on an Advanced Workshop video, then by golly, I want them to learn something and feel they got value received. But if they don't like my age or my clothes...then guilty as charged, I don't give a f*ck what they think

I always appreciate kind words, but no one needs to worry about my feelings. I feel very welcome here, realize that the various Eeyores are simply wired that way, and come here to engage in dialog. Well, and to get ideas about which subjects to cover for my Sonar column in Sound on Sound - this is the Focus Group of the Gods for that application.

1.  My DAW has bugs in it?  I read these comments and think... maybe I got the "golden" copy, created by the Bakers especially for me.  Maybe I'm just not holding my mouth right..... ?

2. Naaaah...   the bakers's laughing at us?

3. Yeah... well this one's kinda hard to refute....   but they do have mortgages to pay and country club memberships to maintain.....

4. What's a feature?  My DAW does exactly what I need it to do and does it well..... and as far as all the other stuff..... maybe I don't even need that stuff.....

5. I've created lots of hit songs with my DAW.... the problem is that Nashville simply has not yet recognized that fact.

note: there may be some sarcasm and exaggeration in the above listed commentary.

Mr. Anderton are we going to see a video on Sonar X2? You know I really like the ones you did for X1.

@ Craig - A while ago you mentioned a mixing/mastering video.  Any news on that?

I am finding it hard to say what I am thinking because I am thing way too many things.

The best way for me to sum it up simply is that I have learned a great many things from Mr. Anderton through years. What he has given me is far and away greater than what I am able to pay back. He has done it freely. He has been on this forum supporting the membership with both good humor and great advice. Nothing that has been posted by him lately is nothing but a celebration of this forum and its membership.

We are extremely lucky to have him on this forum.

One last point is he has been a very nice guy to all of us. Even now after this ridiculous mess  brought on by others, he is taking it with grace.

What you fail to realise is that I complete concur with this post.
I understood the intended levity, even if I didn't think the humour was edgy enough, just a bit too twee for my taste.

I also understand John that if anyone but Craig had posted that thread here you'd have reported it to a moderator as being drivel and buffoonery, and cried out for it to be moved to the Coffee House as you have done with similar threads in the past.

Such obvious sycophancy is distasteful.

Whatever the justifications for posting it, regardless of my normally positive view about Craig's input, it's in the inappropiate place given the folk come here for peer to peer support which is what I believe makes it hugely insulting for those that ARE clearly having serious issue with the software just now.

I could post a whole bunch of these gags about the current state of forums that currently abound on the internet most of them I've found much funnier and even more snarky than this one.

Like Craig says and you'll know I mean it I have no trouble posting anywhere for worrying about what people might think or whether they agree with me or not, I posted my views and I don't see anything I've said any differently today.

I was not rude to anyone although I am certainly opinionated here.

I'll leave it to you guys to do the judgings and executions that's the part that I'm not interested in but it's what appears to be what you guys seem to be getting off on here daily.

Thanks Craig for the reminder of how cool you really are but honestly you ARE preaching to the converted here.  I certainly always enjoy your input and have learned much from your presence in the industry over many years.  And I really don't give a f**k what they think.

btw did you read the link to the article I posted?

Sadly I think the logical conclusion of where the disdain for forums is heading is fastly approaching the point of no more forums.

It is a shame because for me they've always been about the community but increasingly they aren't that anymore (and I'm not merely talking about this one), gone are the days of discussion, sharing, lasting and real friendships and interaction between staff and customers.  This forum has been over the years by far the most meaningful and rewarding, sadly it barely resembles what it used to be today.

The pattern seems to be that forums are fast approaching the point universally of solely becoming dog fests.  They are increasingly looking bad business for vendors who can now get customer feedback by the myriad of means out there these days without needing to maintain a forum presence along with the bi-polar extremism that is increasingly becoming the norm in most of them.

It seems you have to be for or against something these days, all the tonal variation in between seems to have gone.

I have reported 1 post while I have been on this forum. (notice my join date) I do not as a rule allow anyone to fight my battles for me. I'm quite able to engage anyone myself. The post I reported was an advertisement. I just happened to see it first.
As to it being inappropriate, that is up to CW not you or me. You have every right to voice your displeasure and I have every right to counter if I choose.

Mr. Anderton is a professional writer with a huge resume of useful and important publications. I for one want him to post here what ever it may be.

I think you were rude. I think your post was unneeded and unnecessary. I wouldn't have made a comment about if I didn't think that.

I'll reply to the original link.. think I can be objective as I use 3 things ?!?! :)

1) depends on the severity of the bugs.. and how quickly they are resolved.. AND if the company in question is trying to "milk" it for an upgrade to a new version.. e.g. 64 bit update

2) Some companies DAW / VST sometimes *DO* have an unprofessional attitude, not the fact they do.. more the fact it gets to be known, by the person or for customers generally. I used to work in the trade many moons ago, so saw that side of it. it's like any other job. Some people DO make you think ARE YOU FOR REAL ?!?! or others make you job nice.. but there is a difference when it's known to end users etc.

3) Some DAW's have done a nice job at extracting money over the years.. case in point.. cubase used to support DSP factory.. but waited till 4.5 *AFTER* I had paid for v4 to drop it.. after they had got my update cost. lets not start on 64 bit or other things e.g. "exclusive" offers that aren't so exclusive. Marketing dept's are tricky at the best of times.  I've dumped NI after their poor customer care and how they like doing over end users with very short discontinue times.

4)I do think as time has gone on.. DAW's are more alike in certain aspects and their functions..  e.g. Live's way of dealing with sequencing.. anyone else "borrowed" that ?

5) this is down to VIP or endorsing customers.. who aren't paying for whatever they are using a lot of the time.. It's 2 channels of audio end of the day.. I do love how a certain brand of DAW is "industry standard" .. much like there was only a choice of 2-3 decent ones really on the atari ST :)

I use 3 different things.. and I find out I work slightly different in each thing.. I think it's more the norm a lot will use 2+ DAWS for certain styles of music or just like the work flow of one and the mixing of other things

certain DAW's make certain styles of music easier.. as do plugins.

I agree John. It was a drama post that was polar opposite of intent of the op imo.

Actually the point was that I'm not cool, but as someone pointed out, not caring about being cool can make one cool. I guess the self-deprecation may have been a little too nuanced. Not only am I not cool, but for the record, I am not hip. Therefore, recognizing my lack of coolness makes me cool. However, it's uncool to say I'm cool because I don't care about being cool, but then, because I don't care that people think I'm uncool because I point out that people say I'm cool because I don't care if people think I'm cool returns me to coolness. Get the absurdity of those kind of judgements?

Just spell my name right  I think most people understand by now that when they read my stuff, they should picture someone who's not exactly Mr. Serious. Unless I'm offering tech tips.

BTW I read the link, which I would file under "magnificent grasp of the obvious." A forum is a mirror held up to society. Look at society. The people in Washington who supposedly guide the future of this country wisely are a bunch of immature, corrupt, spoiled brats. I think the quality of discourse in this forum far exceeds that of the discourse in Congress, but admittedly, Congress has set a very low bar.

I've been doing the forum thing for 18 years, since SSS first appeared as a microsite on AOL. I'm working on a model that will replace the traditional forum with what I think is a better alternative, but we'll leave it at that. It won't happen until six months at the very least, more likely a year.
