  • Music was much better when fugly people were allowed to release records

Just a solid fact worth saying.

I'm always struck by how many thoroughly unphotogenic people were in bands in the 60's and 70's. And how much better the music was as a result.

actors who sing=gorgeous.  Singers who act=fugly.  You're totally right, it used to be that musicians were uglier on average than in the other arts.  Not sure why...:D:D

I'm always reminded of Budgie. Burke Shelley wasn't exactly fugly in himself, but you'd never get away with glasses like that in a band now.

Yes, I can't imagine Ian Dury getting a contract now.

sad but true.  fugly people are reduced to being the voice for loop packs like "ugly folks who can sing but are unmarketable vol 3"

Not a new concept, unfortunately. It started with Elvis.

OK, some would say it started with Sinatra. He was the first to have women throw panties and room keys at him. Maybe it's my biased straight male perspective, but he never struck me as a handsome fellow.

Gotta wonder: how many Steve Howes and Rick Wakemans are out there languishing in obscurity today because nobody'd even hire them for Katy Perry's touring band?

Joe Jackson - form an orderly queue ladies...

Brilliant songwriter though, never hear anything like this now.

To be fair, he only got one then because people didn't want to tell a disabled guy that he was crap.

At least, that's what I always thought the reason must have been.
