Have to agree with you James. How would the Mama's and Papa's have done on American idol. It all changed with MTV and the concept of music videos.

Yes, I can't imagine Ian Dury getting a contract now.

To be fair, he only got one then because people didn't want to tell a disabled guy that he was crap.

At least, that's what I always thought the reason must have been.

Paulo, could you possibly stop appearing every time I post an opinion, just to take a contrary one? I don't give a flying **** what you think about Ian Dury. Give it a bloody rest man.

James G only interested in opinions that are the same as his.

Nope, I still think he was crap and I still feel entitled to express that opinion.

Sorry, but that's kind of the whole point of discussions.

Please find below the amount of flying ****s I give about people not liking my opinion.....

Joe Jackson - form an orderly queue ladies...

Brilliant songwriter though, never hear anything like this now.

I always thought Joe Jackson looked quite cool. Not "pretty" of course, but he has a uniqueness about his look. Definitely some of the best music of the late 70's and 80's though. I'm The Man, Look Sharp and Body And Soul are 3 of my favorite albums.

A bit of an OT question about punks:

Have you ever seen one with a beard?

OK, some would say it started with Sinatra. He was the first to have women throw panties and room keys at him. Maybe it's my biased straight male perspective, but he never struck me as a handsome fellow.

Yeah, but he made up for his looks by being a first-tier full-on a**hole.

Gotta wonder: how many Steve Howes and Rick Wakemans are out there languishing in obscurity today because nobody'd even hire them for Katy Perry's touring band?

I've heard on good authority that a great many classical music organizations now conduct auditions in which the performer is behind a thin curtain so that the evaluators cannot take appearance into consideration.
