Make it possible to place midi notes without clips appearing automatically.

Clips should be a convenience, not an imposition.

I waste too much time having to administer clips when in fact all I want is notes.

Turn on "Notes" in the edit filter :)

I dont know that! That is a great feature but "jpetersen" is right, a new MIDI clip appears even in "Sound on Sound" recording mode. I would prefer the notes merging together automatically in one clip when I am recording MIDI in that mode because if I want more than one MIDI clip I always have the "Comping" recording mode. In both modes, I have to "Bounce to a clip" everytime in order to edit the MIDI in the same PRV.

When in PRV mode, there seems to be no way I can see of hiding all the midi notes of the track when there are multiple take lanes - or is there and I don't know it?
Drives me mad. I just want to isolate a take lane and edit here and there and be able to see it clearly.

fix issues with Maschine/Komplete Kontrol

The only issue we're aware of is a system dependent issue with a prior version of Windows that was unrelated to CbB.
The latest windows update apparently resolves this. NI is also aware of this issue. Here are the steps that our tech support passed on to some users who had this:

This issue should be resolved by installing the latest Windows updates for Windows 10. For reference, when opening the Windows Update assistant, you should see the following update available:
Windows 10 Version 1803 Cumulative Update KB4340917
After installing this update, restart your machine, then launch Cakewalk by BandLab.

Whenever I raise the issue, this gets offered as a solution and I have to explain again.

The clips are still created automatically.

When notes are extended into and beyond each other's range you get unexpected effects.

Please.
Make it possible to get rid of clips entirely.

I sometimes think the drive to a unified interface lead to the imperative of having audio clips and midi clips behave the same and to be manipulated with the same tools.

Oops... forgot about that...    Thanks!   Though I was mainly hoping for the "ripple delete" of blank measures

Highlight a portion of the song and "delete and ripple" all tracks and clips like in a video program.  Also insert measures, moving all tracks and clips forward.

You have it already...

I'm curious how you're entering MIDI notes and getting clips. I placed MIDI notes in the PRV and get just the notes. Or am I doing something wrong to place MIDI notes?

1. Inserting a note into a midi track with nothing on it will create a MIDI clip, since all MIDI notes will need to be in  a MIDI clip.
2. Record over a MIDI clip with new/additional MIDI and I've sometimes see that recording become it's own MIDI clip laying on top of the existing clip. I usually just select both clips and bounce to clips to get a clean MIDI clip those combined clips.

I see it now. It's been a while since I manually entered midi notes. Yeah, it would be handy to specify if I want to input the MIDI data into separate clips or into an existing clip - or to not even have clips.

You can't "not" have clips. If there's any notes there at all it'll be in a clip. There may only be one of them in a track, but it's still a clip. A track without a clip is an empty track.
