Was actually thinking about purchasing (ordering, really) a new guitar from GC this weekend...Epi Nighthawk custom reissue in trans black. I've got an interesting Washburn silver sparkle Les Paul thingy with a Bigsby trem I was gonna trade plus GC is running a Valentines Day coupon promo that would've been another $70 bucks off.  I say would've because at the bottom of the discount coupon...in tee-nincy little print...is the line "please check on line at guitarcenter.com/coupon exclusions to see the vendors who have chosen NOT to participate in this promotion".  Which I did.  And guess what?  No, go on, guess.  Yup...not only was Epi one of the "NON participants" but so was almost every other brand of anything that GC carries.  It was truly funny.  I honestly don't know what you COULD use your coupon for, there are so many vendors not participating.  This is bait and switch at it's worst.  Rock on, GC...rock on.

Mostly everything I am interested in at GC is NOT included in the coupon.

There's still some bangin' deals there though. Did you see the Alesis monitors for 49.00 a pair   regularly 199.00? I was really tempted to get those as a second pair.

I had the same observation about Musicians Friend.

They keep sending me a 15% off anything coupon that only works on stuff I'm not looking to buy.

The list of non participants is basically everybody.

I don't even bother any more.

Try calling GC order center... I had no problem redeeming a $100 off coupon on my epi acoustic. You never know.

It's not that you can't make a deal... you can always call up musicians friend and work a deal. It's the fact that every 2 weeks they pitch you with a big bold 15% offer and then guide you to a fine print list of hundreds of brands it doesn't apply too.

I don't appreciate that sort of shell game... so I started shopping elsewhere.

They along with MF, service the UK now so I'm given to understand.

Maybe I should try sampling some of these trans-atlantic delicacies.

Trouble is while the $ prices look attractive by the time the VAT and shipping is piled on top it still seems best to go local.

Probably still good to have for stuff that is not so readily available this side of the pond though.

Then maybe you could stop wanting to by those $1500 Opal monitors some us want. Then we'd get 15% off. YEAH!!!!!

Tell you what Jon, this is the reason I get a lot of my stuff form Thomann in Germany.

They're cheap & fast (2 days from ordering to delivery of my Les Paul?)

And they carry a HUGE range of products
