Well, it was only a 6.3 that messed up Los Angeles for a long time. Aftershocks just yesterday from both the Japanese quake and the Santa Cruz Islands quake were both stronger than that (6.4 and 6.6). To only have five deaths from an 8.0 is a miracle.
